    Best iPod adapter?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just bought my 3rd Audi - an 08 A4 with the standard stereo and sat. radio, but it didnt have the iPod feature, so Im shopping for an option to install.

I can obviously buy the Audi iPod Adapter and run it through my glove box for about $175.

Ive also heard good things about the Dice Electronic integration kit that runs about $160, or $220 with a mounting arm/cradle. It has slightly better functionality and claims to have better sounds quality.

Im looking for a reasonably priced option that leaves me with no noticeable wires and good sound quality.

Any personal experience with these, or other, iPod set ups?

    Re: Best iPod adapter?

DICE ftw. Seriously it is way better than oem since you are not limited to just playlists, you can actually use the iPod and you still maintain steering wheel controls. It was a good investment.

So, does anyone else have experience with the Dice unit? Does anyone have pics on where youre running the dock wire?

    Re: Best iPod adapter?

I'm in the market for an ipod adapter as well, but i don't wanna pay 200 bucks for just a cable. I've been looking at the Dice-R at amazon for 129 but im not quite sure yet.

It's just a matter of removing the radio and running the wire to the glove box, or if you want it outside the box, run the cable where you want it. Some people remove the glovebox to make it "easier".

    Re: Best iPod adapter?

I have the scosche bluetooth system with the hands free, I havent installed it since I'm going to do a couple things at the same time while I have the stereo out, but it looks like a great way to get bluetooth handsfree and a good ipod setup...

I have the Dice unit and the sound quality is awesome !

PLEASE NOTE that if you want CD quality sound from your Ipod .. you need to make sure that the MP3's that are on your Ipod ... are CD quality thus a 256k bit rate or higher. I personally don't use the AAC file system just because I like the flexibility and compatibility of the MP3 file system.

    Re: Best iPod adapter?

How did you run the dockign cable? Did you do it through the glove box?

I saw a few people running it through the ash tray and getting a plastic dock set up in the same spot. The post a few up from SeatleAWD gave a link to a doc that goes there, but $150 just for a plastic dock seems a little steep when I have to buy an interface too.

AHHH I still having trouble with the sound quality, ipod volumn is wayyyy lower than CD, and all my songs are 320 kbps. Is there something wrong with the adaptor itself? I searched all forum and seems like a lot of people are having this problem but no resolution. Please help!!!!

Yes volume limited is off, and I also crank up my ipod volume all the way up but it doesn't matter since the adaptor doesn't recongize it anyway. What kind of adaptor you use and do you get good bass on yours?

I just installed the Dice one, and im not too pleased with it. Sound is great and its easy to install...only thing is, it does not display track info or playlist info on the radio.

    i hate that.

    Re: Best iPod adapter?

No ipod adapters will allow track info to display on the radio so DICE is still one of the best ones out there in my opinion. The sound quality is amazing and sounds better than some of my cds.

Just to add my two cents. I'm not a pro at this stuff by any means and I had it installed in about 30 minutes running to the glove box. I didn't remove the glove box so the longest part was trying to fish the cable through. Used a coat hanger and presto, works like a charm.

You're not going to find one that does either... so leave this as a globally missing feature and don't consider this really a problem.

    Re: Best iPod adapter?

Does anyone know if the Iphone works with the DICE? Also what would I need to do to play music videos off the ipod/iphone on the RNS-E display.

    Re: Best iPod adapter?

The Dice site lists compatibility with the iPhone, since it docs and plays just like an ipod, but I dont think youre going to find a way to play your videos on your RNS. More specifically, why would you want to play music videos in your car? Do a lot of long commutes through Nebraska?
