    2001 allroad, worth it?

    Hi all,

I am looking at a 2001 allroad and was wondering if it was worth it at all since the prices have gone down a bit and it is now possible to find one with approx 75-80K miles in excellent shape for $12,5K or so...

I guess one with warranty wouldn't hurt?

    thanks

i don't think you'll be able to find an 01 with warranty... and it depends on what you want from a car... if you want an avant that can go anywhere an suv can, i think an allroad is a good choice...

Get one and then buy an aftermarket warranty from continental. Allroads are great cars, and you'll have the same engine as an s4

i'm working out in my head if this is something that i'd like to do as well... a guy who knows a guy has one with 67k on it for under $14k

but, with a 2.7L engine maintenance... am i looking at pulling the engine to do ANYTHING to it? (basic maintenance)

why not get one with a 4.2 :)... but i guess you'd have to go with a 2003 for that so it might be out of your price range

it's a great car and very very mod-able. Things to look out for are timing belt and waterpump (after 70K it is a must do repair). Oil leaks, and torque converters and air springs.

H-sports are a must as are non OEM tires. Other than that it's a solid car. Avant w/ a 2.7T and go anywhere ability.

I believe you have to pull the engine and tranny to change the turbos.

It shouldn't be that drastic... Bottom line, have it inspected by someone who is familiar with Audis, and see how it looks. If the Turbos are rusty or in bad shape in general, well then you are looking a 3K to replace them. No joke I saw a pair of OEM K03 turbos on craigslist go for $250.00 Some guy went to K04s and just wanted them out of his garage...
It's totally worth it spending $100.+ to get an assesment if you like the looks of everything else.
If they have maintenance records you'd be able to figure out what you are getting into. They are very reliableeven through they have a turbo engine.

If you are patient and look around there are a lot of good ones out there. Look in nearby cities also.

    Good luck!

Truly a great car! I have a 2003 with 81,000 miles and I love it. Just make sure you have deep pockets! That is why it is up for sale!

I love my 01. Last winter was an absolute riot! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee! It has been very reliable so far. I have a great mecanic and I am a maintenance freak therefore I always stay on top things. If you give it love it will love you back. ;)
