    GIAC or APR?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Putting on a fullback labree exhaust and currently have on a EVOMS cold air intake, and wondering what chipped ECU, APR or GIAC because they're local, would be the best.

I know I'll get a set of mixed opinions, but what do you guys think??

    I have a 05.5 S4 avant.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Which chipped ECU for a B7 S4?

Do a search to see about a million threads on this subject. Everybody has their favorites. I chose APR based on reputation and because their dealer is the closest to where I live. That way if I have issues with it it's easy to go there for support.

05.5 S4's are somewhat difficult. the batch does not have enough memory to hold the programs. as of last year, APR did not have the programs in their servers. i know of a person with a 05.5 S4 with Revo and he has been trying to get rid of it due to the car running very rich. not sure with GIAC. call AWE they would be able to give you a precise answer.

I went with APR because they are local to me and have always been very satisfied with their products......reliable and great performance. I also like the convenience of changing programs through the cruise control instead of having some kind of module box that you have to carry around.

Do you have any more information on this? Has this person contacted us or their dealer about the issue? We have flashes for all of the 4.2 S4's and flash quite a few of them actually. To date I'm unaware of any A/F issues and I have not received any direct contact from a customer or dealer inquiring about any rich A/F conditions. This could simply be a matter of the fuel setting adjusted too rich. None the less, if there is something wrong we'll address it but first we need to get the details. If possible, please have your friend give us a call. 770-271-4726.

If you have a local GIAC dealer, GIAC of course.
We've been with them for over 8yrs as the largest NW dealer and have NEVER thought about going elsewhere. Their products and support are phenomenal.

"GIAC performance software for the 2007 - 2005.5 B7 S4® 4.2L smoothly delivers a 15-23 hp and 15-28 ft-lbs gain. For optimum performance the software must be coupled with an intake and exhaust."

in one of the dyno shoot-outs the clear winnner was APR... however when they re-did the dyno runs every chip put down the same exact thing:

    Re: GIAC or APR?

    GIAC for sure.

People say that they went a certain route because they were afraid of issues and the dealer was closer. I can tell you that you will not have a single problem with the GIAC flash and shouldn't even be worried. The software as well as the flashloader are flawless.

    Re: GIAC or APR?

Apparently, APR doesnt "chip" my ECU. If it is a 8E0910560M, need to go elsewhere, I am going with GIAC. Of course, this information would have been better before I pulled my ECU, unfortunately I slacked in my research.

To each his/her own. Some clients feel that the increased crispness in throttle response is enough alone to get software.

Throttle response aside, I'd be happy with APR just for the fault code erase, valet mode, anti-theft ignition kill, and security feature to lock out changes to the settings.

I'd probably be just as happy with GIAC, although unsure if it has fault code erase.........but I have a VAG-COM for that anyway.

    Re: GIAC or APR?

On a side note, in terms of a VAG-COM, do I need the $200+ cable from AWE, or can I get the $5 version on eBay. Also, what software is used?

I am unfamiliar with this area of our cars, but do know the usefulness of such equipment.

    Re: GIAC or APR?

I suggest you give Singh Autosport a shot. They're a great tuning company. You can check them out at www.singhautosport.com or call Jags Singh up at (510)656-5937. They tuned my RS4 and I got 26hp and 26lbs/tq. Overall, I was mostly impressed with better mileage consumption and removal of all flat spots. Singh claims a 10-15% in fuel economy as well. Since the price of gas is constantly rising, this is a great mod. Sorry, I can't discuss pricing. You'll just have to call up Jags and ask him yourself.
