    Koni Coilovers Vs. Stasis SS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone. I did some searching and really didn't find the answer I'm looking for. I'm looking for coilovers this month. I've read a lot on the SS but really not much on Koni's coilovers. I'm aware how Stasis is Koni's tuned to our cars. I understand that they are pre adjusted. Is that the only difference? I'm obviously going to adjust them, because that's the whole reason I'm getting coilovers over a spring/strut combo. The reason I'm considering is because I found a great deal on Koni's with a free sway bar. Thanks everyone.

Re: Koni Coilovers Vs. Stasis SS

Both are horrible IMO, the Koni's are worse for sure. The spring perches do not allow the spring to spin easily on the perch, the corners of the springs dig in so they are a BITCH to adjust with load on the spring. The SS are basically the same, they add a aluminum shim which is supposed to help with that problem on the Koni's but doesnt do much. The SS also come preset for dampening and height as to what they think they should be. For the few sets Ive put on, they are never where they need to be or where the customer wants them though so them being pre adjusted is pretty much useless. I would check on Tein SS or Bilstein PSS9's if they dont break the bank

they are preset for dampening the height is still adustable, however its not easy to do on the car but i have no need to adjust once i got the height i wanted. if u got the $$$ get PSS9s

Re: Koni Coilovers Vs. Stasis SS

I have the Stasis SS and I like them alot.. A4ringedONE8T is right about adjustability though, really tough on the fronts while loaded but doable with the right spanner wrenches. The rears really can only be adjusted by droping the sub frame and adjusting the perch an reinstalling. Mine came with teflon inserts to make adjustment easier but still tough. The pre-adjusted dampening is perfect though, close to oem as advertised.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Before this I only heard good things about the Stasis SS, but if I wanted a pre adjusted suspension I would buy a spring/strut combo.

Re: Koni Coilovers Vs. Stasis SS

Coilovers are going to be better than the spring/shock combo since they are paired together with which ever you go with, the dampening on the Stasis have just been pre-set for the wieght and ride of our cars where as the others you will adjust to where you like... I do agree with the satement about getting the PSS9's if you have the money and have heard they are real easy to install and adjust. I still really like my SS and wasn't bashing them just pointing out the obvious adjustability issue and I have no real need to adjust them down the road so they were a good choice for me.. enjoy either way it is a great mod no matter what you go with..

    Read this, then decide:

I think the Konis are fine but I've always had good luck with Bilstein products.
If I had the money for Ohlins......

Re: Koni Coilovers Vs. Stasis SS

I'm really just looking for ride height adjustment. I doubt my car will ever see a day at the track. So are Koni coilovers that much different than Stasis, other than the Stasis are pre adjusted?

Does any one have a write up on how to drop the sub frame?

Yeah I know Capt.'s DIY, it doesn't detail the sub frame drop very well. I found martini's on A4mods.com. So forget I asked.

I have Stasis SS and like everyone else said they are a bitch to install. One other set you may want to consider are vogtlands. I have heard they are much easier to adjust and are cheaper than the PSS9's i beleive

They are the same thing. Same shocks and same springs. Contrary to what some may believe, they aren't valved differently and the spring rates aren't different. The only difference is that Stassis charges $100 extra because the 'researched' the best dampening settings > so everything is preset...but not everyone what's em that way so it's pointless. Just get the Konis and set them to 50% fr and 75% rear or if you want the stiffer 75% fr and full rear. Set the height you want and forget em. Unless you want to readjust the height all the time the konis are a very good product. These guys are right though...if you have to raise the rears...it's a bitch. they have to come out or at the very least the rear subframe comes down. I put them in my own ride and I really like em and for the price I would say it's the best for the money. Don't sweat the difference between koni and stassis > there is none.
