Why does Audis RS4 v8 prod. 420hp, and S6 v10 only 435?

That makes no sense.. the v10 is a 5.2 liter.. wouldnt they want to at least make their v10 engine compete with the m5.. closer to 500?

even if the s6 had 500hp the m5 would still beat it due to the quattro drivetrain loss. The S6 would have to have more like 550+ to beat the m5

i read in article in the past that said that Audi wasn't in the HP race that BMW and Mercedes were into and was more into the driving experience.... to show this engine's potential, look at the new lambo gallarado LP560-4. it uses a 5.2 Direct injection v10 (ala S6 & S8 just pumped up)

Yeah, we call that low end grunt where I'm from.

As for e60 M5 competition, the S6 really isn't in the same class. Take a look at the S4, S5, and S6. What do they compete with? The "S" line is kind of an "in-between" class that other automakers generally lack, falling between the "normal" vehicles ("A" line) and the balls to the wall vehicles, which we know 'round here as the "RS" line. I would imagine that the RS6 would be gunning for the M5 as well as the M6 (until there's an RS5; coupe v. coupe).
