    Unhappy I think I bought the wrong I-pod interface[:/]

I bought the Dice electronics i-Audi R kit
I own a 05 A4 Avant with audi symphony radio with integrated 6 disc changer.
All the connections work but I don't get a charge on the I-pod nor do I know how to get it to work.
    Am I doing something wrong?
How do I know if I have a fiber optic audi vehicle?
I would post a pic of the kit but I dont know how to.

    Re: I think I bought the wrong I-pod interface[:/]

That's what I ordered - mine gets here tomorrow. I also have the in-dash changer. I'm pretty sure I did the proper research, and that's the right part. The only other one was for the glove box changer.

The instructions seem a little complicated, but I ran into several good posts on this forum - try searching for i-Audi-R. Also, there's a YouTube video of Enfig showing how it works.

Not sure why it wouldn't be charging though. What kind of iPod is it?

I will hold on to it, let me know if you have any luck with yours.
Can you send me an install link if you find one.
    Thanks

One thing about those interfaces that I noticed is need of grounding. The two interfaces for symphony that I used had special wire that was ground and had to be connected to the HU in order to work properly. That could be the problem.

This is the Dice install doc: http://support.diceelectronics.com/f...di_install.pdf

I'm going to try to get mine installed soon, but I graduate from law school this weekend, and my family is coming in. Also, I'm using the AUX on the Dice to hook up an XM receiver, so I have a little bit of work to do in running the antenna, splicing in a new cigarette adapter to power the XM receiver, etc. Study for the Bar exam... Install stereo... Decisions!

I noticed a lot of threads where proper grounding ended up resolving the issue. Check out Step 6 in the install document.

I installed mine in 3 minutes about 2 years ago ... pm me if you need help

    1) You need to ground correctly or you hear static
    2) It wont' charge certain ipods
    3) YOu need the correct harness - if they gave you the wrogn harness it wont work

I installed mine over the weekend w/o any glitches. You never answered the question about connecting the ground wire. You also didn't mention whether or not you have a glove box CD changer as that setup requires a different dice harness, iirc

    Re: I think I bought the wrong I-pod interface[:/]

I just installed mine - works like a champ. I set the switches to simple mode. It's cool because I still have the use of the in-dash CD changer. When I pick "CD," the changer functions normally. When I pick "CDC" I get the Dice unit and iPod.

The only thing I'm concerned about is that the cable is smashed in between the dash trim and the bottom edge of the radio - I had to push the radio in pretty tight. I hope it's not putting too much pressure on it. I ran it right below the radio on the right side. The iPod is just sitting on the ashtray door until I pick a better cable routing option.

The sound is SO much better than the CD player. I don't know why, but CD's have always sounded pretty much like ass. The iPod sounds almost as good as the Alpine 9856 with upgraded speakers that I had in my Jetta.

Didn't need the radio code, and I did disconnect the battery.

    Re: I think I bought the wrong I-pod interface[:/]

umm take ur radio out again - this time slide the cable out of the boot of the side and pull it out the back

    OR

pull it through ur globe compartment - it just plain looks better

to have the cable come out under the radio is hella ghetto

Mine comes out the bottom of that piece on the side that covers the center console

i used to have it come out of the glove box as i had my ipod in there

That's why I said it was temporary! I had stuff to do last night - just wanted to throw it in there so I could reply to the original poster. Will reroute tonight or tomorrow night.

edit: I also went ahead and installed the panavise mount for my XM receiver.

This is how I had my old Jetta and old XM receiver. I know - still kinda ghetto. I ran a new cigarette adapter behind the dash via an add-a-circuit. I have to treat the Audi better...
