    ***PSA*** Check your dipstick tubes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
While changing my oil today I realized that the base of my dipstick tube, basically where it attaches to the block was broken off. I was leaking a decent amount of oil it seems but it never was visible from up top or below the car due to the belly pan. So next time your out looking at your engine, just take a little glance at your dipstick tube.

That's funny - that brittle orange plastic POS holder is what pushed me over the edge to trade in my Jetta for the A4 earlier this month! I checked my oil, and it cracked in several places. Drove to Full Throttle VW, Shannon popped a new one in, then I traded it in the next day.

    Josh,
Are you referring to the metal bottom half of the dipstick tube? Its pressed into the block (not easy to remove). The upper half is the orange plastic POS (gonna replace mine when I put the 2.0 in) that winds up cracking. The other piece that cracks is where the dipstick meets the orange handle.

Mine cracked when i replaced my thermostat.

Bought a new one and for some damn reason it doesnt clip into place...If I try to pull up on the dipstick to check the oil, the whole damn funnel comes up with it! I ghetto rigged it with some woodscrews to hold it in place but need to replace it...even though it is brand new

My dealer tried to charge me 80 bucks to replace mine. I literally couldn't hold back the laughter.
I was like, so that's what, 10 bucks for the part and an hour of labor to simply insert it back into the tube??
