i thought i heard somewhere that if you need 1 tire, you can get the tread shaved on a brand new tire so that it somewhat matches the other 3 tires. does anyone know where you can get that done? thanks.

    Re: tire shaving

tire rack does tire shaving. most race shops do that as well.

its not normally for this purpose, but to get a tire down to a race tread depth.

basically you cut off 1/2 or more of the tread of a new tire because a typical treaded tire will "die" before it gets corded. By die, i mean that though enough heat cycles, it will no longer be sticky enough for ones tastes. So you shave a tire down to get less squirm and so that you wear out the tire in sequence with the tread wearing itself out.
