    Rolling Fender Lips

I'm getting a wee bit of rubbing from my tires when I corner hard or hit a bump through a curve after doing my new suspension and wheel setup. Being the perfectionist I am... it's irritating at best!

From reaching around the inside lip of the front fender it feels like the lip will roll back somewhat. I don't think I'm going to need too much extra clearance, and I've done this on other cars I've had before, but I was wondering if this is typical of the B6 cars after they've been lowered.

I ended up rolling mine to be on the safe side when I did my coilovers.

Do you have a roller or a shop that would do it?

Have you taken out the 12 o'clock bolt yet? If not, do this first before you start rolling metal.

Thanks RAudi Driver... I removed the 12 o'clock screw and clipped off the plastic tab and tossed it hard around corners, through dips... no rubbing at all.

    Re: Rolling Fender Lips

*** an old thread I found while searching with some of the answers I was looking for ***

I'm having these same tire rub issues front (w 12 oclock bolt) and slightly on the rear too. I've got VMR V708s 19x8.5. (38 offset) I have 245/35/19s on now when I should have put 235/35/19s. The slightly smaller tire would help, but it isn't the entire issue. It appears that a few millimeters less of offset could have resolved the issue (at least in the rear).

I'm going to have a body shop look at rolling the fenders, but on the phone the shop was hesitant given the fender inner liner.

I'd like to drop my body so that the fender top is even with the top of the tire, but am running about 1in higher now to keep the rub within reason.

Will removing the 12 oclock bolt require any other work to keep the inner liner from moving or can I just pull this out and forget it?

Any other thoughts on resolving the rub and being able to run with some drop would be appreciated. thanks!

    Re: Rolling Fender Lips

    1. Are you sure you're rubbing on the fender/liner and not a control arm? 245s are wider.

    2. You can remove the 12 oclock screw and just tuck the little tab in. (you'll know exactly what I mean when you do it). the liner will not move around.
    3. You can trim your rear fender liner with scissors if it's the back side of the wheel/tire is rubbing.

My coilovers are slammed at 24.5 fender to ground on 235/40/18s with et33 and et28 offsets front/rear. I don't rub. If you have an inch of gap between the tire and fender, with that offset, and still rub...it's gotta be the back side rubbing due to tire width.

    Re: Rolling Fender Lips

    Thanks

I'll take a look at removing the 12 oclock screw and bending as suggested for the fronts.

The rear is rubbing on the outside sidewall of the tire against the inner liner and it's only hitting the liner (no metal being hit). It's not hitting anywhere else. The smaller tire size might help, but it appears to be wheel offeset and not tire diamater that is the main issue.

I had 1 body shop look at the fenders and they felt confident that they could roll out the fronts, but were very skitish about touching the rear fenders for some reason. I'll have to check with a few other shops to see if anyone local has some more relevant experience.

I had rubbing issues. 235/35/19 offset +35. Removing the 12 oclock screw and slight raise in the rear got rid of it. You can check it out Sat.

Sounds good 46zulu, I'll take a look on Saturday. I spoke to Velocity today and they recomended the same plus trimming the inner liner in back.
