    Hi Guys,

I am currently driving a 2004 A4 1.8t CVT automatic. I had noticed on my drive home the other day that the car was sparatically shifting from D to S... and i had no way to stop it. I just got a diagnostic done at the dealership and they told me that some controller is gone and its going to be 1600 for the part and 6-7 hours labour. What am I to do?

    CVT FTL

it could be the transmission ECU problem - the controller is under the floor of the passenger side
    Now: RNS-E | Debadged | GIAC 1+

    Soon: Caractere front and sides | S4 Rear | S4 Doorblades | Bi-Xenon E-Codes

Yeah, you've got an other option, it's called an independent Audi/VW shop. There are lots of them that do good work at fair prices. Find the search button, double click on it, type in "mechanic" into the search line titled "key words" then on the lower right.. you'll see a box titled "search in forums" - look for the regional forums and select your region.

Don't tell them whats wrong with the car, walk in like you haven't got a clue. If they tell you the same thing the Audi dealers told you, than thats good news, you're probably dealing with honest people. If they tell you something different, go to a third shop and get a third opinion. After you're 100% whats wrong and that there is no way around it.. use the recommended shops you found in your search you conducted on this excellent website, call those shops up and find the best price. If the independent shop who gave you the second opinion (that matches the dealers opinion) give you a good price, then stick with them.

A third option would be to search here, audiworld, google or whatever else you can find for a DIY (do-it-yourself) option, if you're up for the task and want to spend as little as possible. Maybe one of the great members of this forum will chime in with a DIY.

    Good luck.

P.S. When a mechanic tells you something is wrong, and you don't know what its called "some controller".. always write or have them write everything down. If you know what the part is called, it's very easy to search for solutions and/or parts online.
