Why dont people like the Podi gauges? Or better said, why recommend the vent mounted gauge over the column mounted ones?

I have no idea. I prefer the Podi because it has better gauge placement, making it easier to read when you have the car at WOT. I also think it looks better. If it's cheaper, that's a bonus. I didn't even consider the air-vent monted ones once I saw the Podi.

i just don't really like it on the column plus my interior is platinum and the column mounted one doesnt come in that color. I think im going to get one anyways b/c I don't know what this new gauge AWE is making for the vented is going to look like

Podi matches the interior PERFECTLY. And it also sits just right on the column letting you see all your other gauges. To me the AWE is so far away from your line of vision. The Podi is right there in front of you.

Re: looking for a boost gauge need help

I have owned both AWE and Podi gauges, and both of them matched the colors perfectly. The current Podi in my B7 is great, but the only thing bad about it is the needle doesn't light up red like my old AWE gauge did for an exact match. But I don't care, it's not like I really need to perfectly see what I'm boosting when it's dark out. One positive note about the Podi though, is there was a white and red LED included with my gauge, to either match the cluster perfectly, or else match the same red and be more subtle and not so eye catching.

As for placement, it's all in the buyer's opinion. I had a vent mount in my TT, and only liked it because the vent was circular and it looked sweet. I personally hate vent mounts in the A4 because they look very out of place. Steering column pods don't really get in the way that bad. They do block some of the cluster depending on how to sit in your car, but it's only the very bottom and you can quick look around if you really need to, which I never do.

For example, my Podi mount (right side) blocks about 0-20mph on my speedometer, but I'll never need to know those speeds. The pod PerformanceCafe is advertising right now here sits on the left side, that that will only block the tachometer from about 7,000rpm and up... who will ever rev that high?

But all of the available gauges match the white pretty much perfectly. The only thing you'll have to choose is the gauge face style, if you really want the needle to light up, and the pod placement.
    Ignorance is bliss.

Prosport makes some nice gauges. Running one on my car right now and no issues. looks like a defi knock off but works great! When u turn the lights on it changes to an Amber color .. I need someone to switch out the LED inside to a red and it will match perfectly at night. You can mute the sound as well... it can get annoying after a while. Has peak/warn and recall. all for less than $100

Re: looking for a boost gauge need help

Things to consider when considering a boost gauge and its location:

Just how fast are you going when you want to know how much boost you are making?

Then consider if you have to take your eyes off the road to look, alter your focus to read a display in a mirror or a gauge in a vent, and then look back if that is a safety issue.

This was a concern, other than aesthetics, I had when I was looking at the available options on the market. I couldn't find a solution to satisfy my needs so I made one.

And if you are wondering why a Podi is offset to the right instead of the left?

From the testing we did we found it was easier to read the tach and boost gauge simultaneously with this orientation due to depth of field issues.

And if you are worried about your boost reading, you are going a little quicker than 20mph.

I got the column mounted because i didn't want to mutilate my air vents =p. Only thing i don't like is that the needle doesn't light up red, but its still really nice looking.

Well the Stewart Warner gauges use one LED for the dial and needle

The new electronic gauges have 9 LEDs (8 for dial, 1 for needle) for better night time illumination, but the cost of the gauge increases by $70.

I have a podi with the VEI led gauge and love it. At first I ordered it with the omori gauge, but something happen and couldnt get it, so I told them to give me whatever was avail.

I thought it might get annoying seeing the bars light up and flutter up and down, but you will forget that it is there. It shows exactly what the boost and vacuum is at without any second guessing and have a memory function to show the highest boost, and you can change the brightness to match the background lights.

Well okay it works, but it sits right in the middle blocking your vision of the instrument panel. Second, the column cover the gauge goes in is a piece of crap. It doesn't match the interior. There is nothing to secure it to the column itself. Therefore, it moves around all the time. Not to mention the rubbing against the steering wheel when making turns. I do like how many colors you can change around though.
Maybe the "SUCK ASS" comment was a bit harsh. I'm just still pissed I'm out that $$$$. I love my Podi.

Yours rubs your steering wheel? My pod sets into place, then there are two torx screws on the bottom that hold it down

The column cover I have only sits on top of the column. I was very disappointed when I found this out. I ended up using double sided tape to hold it down. Yes, the bottom corners of the cover rubbed behind the steering wheel when it was in place. I hated it!
