    help me decide on wheels...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a Silver b5 that needs new tires real badly. I figured if I'm going to spend 350+ on tires...i might as well look into a wheel + tire package from a place like edgeracing or tirerack. I'm trying to get wheels and tires for under 900. I would love a set of 18" b5 RS4 reps....but I thought i could find a deal on those used, and I havent seen many lately. Right now i'm looking at these below. Please give some input or post pics if you have any of b5s with these wheels.

    Enkei ZR2 Silver
    17x7

    Enkei RSV Silver
    17x7 or 18x7.5

    Enkei Evo 5 Hyper black
    17x7

    ASA AR1 silver
    17x8

    ASA JH8 silver
    18x7.5

I know that some of these are 17s and some are 18s. I'm not sure whether or not 18s would look right. Currently I'm on sport suspension with a sound system in the back. I might go H&R race springs in the future, but not sure. 17s are more cost effective...but then again, the 18" JH8's i posted are only 119 a wheel. Anyways, I'm just looking for some opinions.

You should add a poll so people can vote.

I like the last one as they are different. I would do them in black with a polished lip.

Re: help me decide on wheels...

i have a feeling the only way i could pull off black wheels would be if my lowers were painted. Painting them is very high on my To Do list....and now with nicer weather around the corner it seems plausible.

is there a way I can edit this and turn it into a poll so that I don't have to make a new post?

Re: help me decide on wheels...

I like all the wheels you posted. But it still boils down to it being your car and you should choose which wheels you like the most. All we can do is place our opinions, which of course you are asking. With that being said, I vote neither one of those. If you are going to spend $350 per wheel, you have a way bigger variety to choose from. And if you are looking for under $900 for package, you might get lucky and find a good deal on the classified. But they always have good deals (if you are going to spend $1000-2,200). As for size of the wheels on the B5, go 18" for looks and 17" for driveability.

Re: help me decide on wheels...

well i say if ur not planning on lowering the car right away go with the 17's. here is a pic of 17' on my car wich also has sport suspension. also for B5's anyways i was told that 18's are purly for looks, while 17's look good but have the added preformance advantages. i was gonna get 18's cause they were the same price but i dont want to make my car slower, or handle like shit with hte 18's pluss i dont want to lower the car till a part of my suspension goes and there is reason to upgrade

Re: help me decide on wheels...

I've been considering the Sport Edition KM11. In a 17x8 they are $119 each and at 23 pounds each is 5 pounds lighter than a stock S4 Avus wheel. As for tires, the best deal is the Sumi HTR Z at $61 each in a 225/45-17. I run these tires in 225/50-16 and they are very grippy. For those needing better mileage, tire life, and some all season capability the Ecsta AST are $74 each. With the Sumis the package is $720 plus shipping.

The Outback has a set of Sport Edition wheels that were very inexpensive, durable, and look great.

When looking at 17 versus 18 inch setups don't just look at the wheel price. The wheels are often pretty close but the tires are a whole different story. I priced that same $702 setup above with 18 inch wheels and the wheel price went up 10 each but the cheapest tires were more than double. The package price bumped up to 1300 which is nearly twice the price. The additional cost is all from the tires which get replaced much more often than wheels. If you went through two or three sets of tires the difference is staggering.

I'd say, none of the above. Enkei doesn't make those wheels wide enough, 7" max, and the ASA's I'm not a fan of.

18's wont make your car slower or handle badly. Heavier wheels will make your car slower, and an 1" bigger wheel won't make your car handle any worse. It's more about the type and size tire you use.

So you spent more $ on your winter wheels than you summer wheels. I just feel that your flicks are sub par for your car, your car is super clean but your wheels,....

Re: help me decide on wheels...

Don't knock on Fliks. Mine were abused on the track and through several winters and held up better than much more expensive wheels. They got a lot more compliments than the BBS wheels that retailed for nearly 4 times the price too. I've gotten more than a dozen PMs asking to buy my wheels. Hilarious considering everyone knocked them as "cheap" when they were introduced. Price is always secondary to value.
