Is this all I need, along with the downloaded software to tweak my 02 a6?

Yeah, the ebay cable is a good idea if all you want to do is the window mods/tip mod, but the full version is needed to do the other stuff.

Well I definitely don't think I want to do the tip mod on my car. Can you use this cable to pull up codes on the computer instead of getting one of those vag-com readers?

I am fairly certin that when you plug it in it will tell you some way or another. I did the tip recode and it showed the codes I was throwing...

    Re: vag-com cable

You can find ways to turn the free 409.1 into a registered full version. That's what I do with my ebay cable. Does everything and never had a problem. You should do the Tip recode. I think the car drives much better now with it.

    Must find VAG crack....

I bought one of these for a family friend. I have a real VAG-COM and we could do most of what we needed with the generic cable. The only trouble is that the shareware version does not show you more than a couple of codes. Well it does, but only the code not explanation etc. It still works though, don't get me wrong. You also cannot do adaption (change settings on the car etc) with the generic cable and unregistered VAG-COM software.

If you buy the eBay cable with the intent to register the software ($100) I would suggest spending the extra money and buying the real thing. Ross-tech only supports V4 with the generic cables so you won't get any of the new features etc.

Just something to keep in mind
