how many things are going to go wrong on my a4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i am seriously considering trading this POS in, in my 8 months of ownership i have replaced all the coilpacks (because of failure not for GM) 3 window regulators, fuel pump, window control module, and now tonite the fuel pump died again......

i cannot keep dumping money into this car for repairs.... i am gonna have to sell some of my modding parts to fix this, so i might be leaving the b6 community.
this is a sad day for me because i love this car....

Did you change the fuel filter when the pump was done?

Re: how many things are going to go wrong on my a4?

I hear ya....I've had a few issues lately. Rattles (2 fixed, awaiting the next one), OEM intercooler endtank failure and fuel injector o-rings leaking. I need to replace my brake pads and do 60k service (maintiance items that aren't anyone's fault).
And it seems the car is a magnet for damage. In the last 3-4 months I've gotten door dinged, roof scratched, backed into and a rock that d@mn near came through the windshield.

I hope this is just a fluke, but it seems to come in cycles. When I got the car I had quite a few isses within the 1st year of ownership (all out of warranty). Now all the mechanical and body damage.

I was a C*nthair away from switching to the dark side (BMW, Lexus or Infiniti). I had a deal on a IS350 when I found out I was moving (I'm military); so financially it would have been a bad move w/ my wife losing her job soon...and as much as I hate to say it and how much I still love my Audi...I was ready for a car without all the issues.

That sucks. Did they run into quality problems with the later B6s? I've had no problems with my 2002. My coil packs lasted to almost 100k along with my fuel filter. Aside from that I've done nothing outside of recalls and general maintenance.

Re: how many things are going to go wrong on my a4?

i love my car, i have a good bit of aftermarket shit for it i havnt even installed yet, but i have probably spent close to 2k in repairs in 8 monthes and i have done all the labor, and yes i replaced the fuel filter the first time the pump died. i honestly dont even know what i would trade it in for, i dont like bmw, or infinity (nissan hater 4 life), or mercedes... i just want a car i can throw performance money into and not have to keep dumping money into general maintenance... more than likely i am gonna park the A4 in the driveway, and drive my little civic hatch for a while, i am gonna fix the a4 of course, but i might not drive it because i dont want to spend any more repair money on it.... maybe i will trade it in, or maybe while it sits i will start the BAT project i had planned and then drive it till the wheels fall off... when i first bought it, i had plans to keep it for a long time and do alot of things to it, but it seems like the car dosnt want those things because it keeps dieing.. anyway, try and convince me to keep her cause right now i am so pissed off at her, it was very sad to see her on the flatbed yesterday..

As far as the coilpacks go, I have replaced two in my '04, and always keep at least two spares in the glovebox.

I don't know what to say. Electrical gremlins can continue to plague for a long time (as you most likely know).

Drive your civic around for a while and let the A4 sit. Clear your head and come back to it at a later date. Don't jump to conclusions of selling the A4 just yet. You need time to take a few steps back and think about things clearly.

stick with it, my car has 100k and has not really given me any problems since 78k... Sounds like your just having some bad luck, plus you have to stay around so we can get some of those parts going!

Re: how many things are going to go wrong on my a4?

I totally feel ya. Mine's only been with me for 10 mos. So far, coil packs went out, brakes need replacement, fuel pump replaced(recall), coolant flange replaced, now the heater hose is leaking, and that dang vibration while idling is still caused by something unknown. I'm still paying for the car and also paying more out of pocket to fix it up. I might have spent close to $2k and then more to come(brakes & TB). I'm seriously thinking of trading it in for a Honda or something that's gonna be less costly to upkeep. I don't really do most of my major repairs so it costs me more than others who are DIYers. I was warned about used Euros before about maintenance and the costly repairs. I was expecting it, but not one after another though....

I still have plans to mod this car ie; lowered, chip, body kit, etc... but with these costly repairs, it just gets in the way of the fun stuff I can do with this car. I'm probably going to keep it for another 6 mos, but then if I have to fork out another $2k just to keep it, I'm gonna have to get rid of it...

My car's an 04' and Ive had very few problems. A few window regulators (fragile and break on pretty much every VW/Audi), coilpacks, and an AC compressor in 54k miles, not too bad IMO. I think some cars are just Lemon's, I dont think it has anything to do with the MY

Not to worry the A4's fuel pump was recalled twice, so it's a common problem! the window regulators are very fragile and the coilpacks are trash as well but everything else is solid! Be happy our 06' ML500 has been to the dealer 14 times in less than 3 years! all for issues and they still haven't been fixed, MBZ's service FTL! but their cars are no doubt FTW!
