so I'm having trouble installing my short shifter and need to get my ashtray all the way out. I can't figure out how to get it out completely. Help!

If it is anything like the B6, it is a pain. I never actually fully removed it, just wanted to re-seat it. If it has the push to open door, you have to kind of get in mid way up so the plastic piece in the back comes down, then rotate it out. Hopefully that makes sense looking at it.

    Still can't get it.

I uncliped the 2 wiring harnesses and if I rotate the front up with the door ajar its still gets caught. My car is disaled because I can't tighten the linkage bolt on my shifter assembly. Wow, what a pita!

it's a hell of a lot easier if you pull out your ac control...just swing by the dealer and ask them to pop out your radio

yeah you have to get the radio popped out to disconnect the ashtray and to put it back in correctly, it sucks and i have to go to the dealer just because iwas trying to get some change from behind the ashtray "door"
