If you take the time on a warm day to remove the tint yourself you will save more money. If you take your car in as is, you can possibly pay double the cost of a tint job, because of the removal charge.

I like a place called Total Eclipse in San Rafael, CA, if you live in/near the North Bay. High quality, plus they also do the 3M ClearBra - a must for our shiney, painted front-ends.

Had my B5S4 done at Window Tinting Plus in Fremont about a year ago. At $220 they used a quality tint film and it wasnt too expensive and I had no problems.

Try Best Image in San Mateo. I hear a lot of good things coming out of there. He does a lot of the 49ers and Warriors cars. And he's not expensive either.

hey guys,
rather than starting a new thread...I wanted to get some advice before I contact the above recommended shops.
I am looking to tint my windows. My car is white on black.
I have a 2 year old son and it's getting pretty hot these days, but i don't want hassle from the cops.

What would you guys suggest as a safe but effective percentage if I want the same all around including Front doors?

if you have pics too, that would be very helpful.

p.s. I love when white cars look limo'd out at night.

IIRC 70% should be legal for the front side windows in CA. If you have a light interior, it makes it even less of a cop magnet from the outside. Another tip is you can open your moon roof to let in more light when in doubt. All that said though, 70% is actually really not bad at all and the nice thing is that regardless what % of light allowance you go with, you still get the same 99.9% uv rejection. The heat rejection ratings will vary though. The less light let in the more heat rejected.

I always go 50% up front and it looks great, works great and hasn't been a problem yet. *knock on wood*

If you feel like coming down to Santa Clara, I went to Mr. Tint right off of Stevens Creek. They hooked it up for $200 and some dollars and did an excellent job. They also offer a lifetime warranty.

You are in alameda and work in the city right? I think the cops in the city might cite you if you go too dark. 50% on white will look nice, this is the tint I have on the accord that I have. I recommend omega tintwerks, Huy has always been a good friend of mine and does great work that he guarantees.

My car came with 35% tint all around when I bought it, the interior is black with white alcantara. I've always taken my cars to Rocky Mountain Window Tint in Livermore, they do great work and have not had any issues.

In 1996, I took my car to a place named Streetwize. They didn't do tint, but they were fostering Juan who was drumming up business. Then I introduced Juan to the ba-audi mailing group and A4.org. The rest was history

BTW, my 12 year old tint still looks like new

per JoeC's recommendation, I went to a place in the city called the detail factory. The owner apparently used to work at audi (fremont?) in the body shop. They did a great job and were within walking distance from my office. I was jonesing so bad, i had to get it done. no regrets and i (and my son and interior) couldn't be happier
Per everyone's recommendation...i did 35% in the front and 20% in the rears. The discrepancy in percentages is negligible with black interior, especially during the night. I may be somewhat of a magnet for the police, but i don't drink, so i'm not too worried. But, it looks soooooooo sick. :)

Great Guys, HIGH quality work...But your car is definitely a cop magnet now. I got pulled over on average of 2times a month with my Ibis White Sedan with those wheels, at least you have the Avant. OH and I just won my 2nd Traffic violation through written declaration!!! I love ticket assassins.

No tint allowed in front windows unless you can justify it in writing for a medical condition. But a lot of us just get away [knocks on wood] I have 50% front and rear windows, 35% rear quarter panel and rear window.
