    2003 A4 -1.8 TIP- Low Speed Hessitation/Stutter

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Recently, I have noticed my car stuttering or hessitating
in the 25-35 mile per hour zone, when slowly accelerating.

If I step on the gas a little harder it wont do it..

THe car feels like its stutters for a few seconds while
goin through 25- 35 mile per hour and after 40 and beyond
you wont feel it... It does this at random times.

    The car is completely stock..

I replaced the coil packs with ECS tuning Hitachis Stage 1 and
no change.. It is a bit smoother, but It has not change this..

It does it more when it's hot out...

    What could this be?

There a no codes, nor blinking cels .. I have vag'ed the car multiple times, and have replaced the spark plugs with denso iridiums.

DO you think it might be a fuel problem?

    BAD MAF or fuel filter?

    Any ideas

I've got the same problem. I think it may be my engine mounts. Dirty bird if ur reading this I'll need u to to replace those mounts after all. I checked them the other day and there was dried purple goop on the outside of both of them.

I think you need a snub mount apr and a new clutch. i would also recommend a new exhaust and chip it.

    Re: 2003 A4 -1.8 TIP- Low Speed Hessitation/Stutter

Added a bottle of fuel injector cleaner... Techcron... and it seems a little
better than before..... Hessitation is still there.. A little less noticiable...

Fuel Filter Clogged? BAD MAF? Replace diverter valve or N75 Valve..

    Weak fuel pump?

Don't be bummed about the money you've spent replacing things already, it's all stuff they would die on an 03 soon anyways.

if it were me, I'd try changing the spark plugs next. They're pretty cheap, and you've already ruled out a lot of the obvious stuff already. After that I would suggest vag-com, and watch boost and air/fuel.

what does the engine sound like when it does this? does it sound like it's misfiring?

that sucks man! I have the same problem too... I changed both my motor mounts, DV, SNub mount, spark plugs, and coil packs but still no luck. The tech from audi took my car for a test drive once and he said it could be the clutch packs in the CVT trans..

    Re: 2003 A4 -1.8 TIP- Low Speed Hessitation/Stutter

Raplaced the spark plugs with some NGK BKR6E's and nothing..

If at all the problem became a little more noticiable now with the cooper plugs
than with the Denso Iridiums I had there for 10k ..

Things.. I've done to the car.

New Coil Packs- ECS Stage I - ( AKA Hitachi E's)
New OEM Fuel Filter-- No Change
New NGK Spark Plugs- BKR6E's - Problem abit more noticiable.

    What's next ...

Do you all think It may the diverter valve.. Or a BAD N75..

I vagued the car at wot .... THe maf a idle reads 2.46- 2.53 g/s
at wot it goes up to 142 g/s ... Is this right.

My car is at the dealer for the same thing right now. I changed everything you did as well as all my spark plugs. They can't figure it out but they are calling Audi on Monday to see what they say. There is a TSB for exactly the opposite thing, stuttering during deceleration so they are going to see if it might be related. But they told me to be prepared for the news to come back and say the CVT is busted.
