Hello,
I have owned an older Audi for about a year now(1990 90 Quattro 20V 7A). With a fresh set of tires and some belts, it has run like a champ. I wanted to just replace the worn out parts in the suspension.
I bought new struts, ball joints, rocker arms, control arm bushings, etc.
When I put it all back together, the strut mounts were badly worn. I ordered them to replace.
Now.... with the new strut mounts - It will not seat correctly into the housing in the frame. The frame cap? sits directly on top of the mount, but there is a 1/4 inch gap... which the strut is bouncing around in. I examined the top of the strut and it looks fine - Strut bolt is all the way down and the strut bearing is also new.
I am not a mechanic, but am fairly intuitive about these things. It looks correct, except the last piece.
The other strut had the same issue, but I left the old bearing on(under the nut) and mounted the new one on top... It seems fine, but need to get this correct as the alignment is out and will eat up another set of tires if not done soon.
Any suggestions? or know the correct order of parts on the top of the strut and their orientation of the bearing, nut, mount in order to look at other possible issues in the housing.
Thanks -
Chris
