Well today I drove hard on some canyons and everytime im going WOT and shift to 3rd, it grinds. It seems like it's only started since I got my Southbend FE installed. What's going on? It's only to 3rd gear.

    Re: 3rd gear grinding

Same problem I have but it started happening once the 28RS was installed and only when the car is not 100% warmed up.

I am concluding it is the syncros on my car and am installing a new transmission to combat it (amongst other things).

try swapping out some tranny fluid...if that doesnt help, look at the synchro

+1 on the fluid also could be the clutch I hade a Mazda 626 and when the clutch was put in incorrectly ( it wasnt lined up right) It hade shifting gears very difficult but once they re did it correctly it was great!

    Re: 3rd gear grinding

I drained the OE fluid and put Redline MT90 in mine and I still get the grinding. I think my 3rd gear syncros are shot.

    Re: 3rd gear grinding

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's my synchro. I just got new fluid in like Feburary or March.

Is it bad if I just don't replace my synchro?

    Re: 3rd gear grinding

It depends on what else is bad once you take the trans apart. New syncros are not cheap. Jay at JHM told me upwards of $800 for (I think) all 5 syncros. I just got a 1999.5 2.8L 5spd from a junk yard for $300 and will be using that.
