    CAT 3658s are in!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I put them in this morning, and Damn! Boost starts about 2200 rpm making it much more drivable and about 4k, it's like getting launched out of a sling shot until 8500. A video will be soon as I can figured out how to mount the camera so I can drive. Also the exh. is done also, pics will be up soon. Greg, I be calling you shortly on the tuning.

Cat is the brand, and I'm BAT 3071r. Also boost will start to fall from 22psi @6500 to about 15psi @8500. So, that tells me the motor needs more boost and I'm more than happy to oblige.

We'll have to see. I have an issue with the vacuum line between the firewall and brake booster popping out of the grommet. I think a little super glue will do the trick. If I can't keep the boost in the upper RPMs, I guess there will be a 3071r for sale and get a 3076 or a modded GT35.[O_O]

An easy way to make a camera mount is a couple pieces of wood sandwiched around the pass headrest posts and a screw for the tripod mount. or some thing like this

    http://www.ae92gts.com/ae92gts_video_mount.html

And another question could cams be useful on a GTRS set up or should I wait till i go bigger.

Winston, this is basic as I can put this. Aftermarket cams increase the lift and amount of time the valve is open, allowing in more fuel and air. Doug, I haven't Vag'd it yet.

Just to let you know, the 3658s will give you a CEL due to unplugging the cam chain tens. The VVT @ idle will cause valve to piston issues, but the 3651's won't.

so you are running a cam that gives you issues at idle

No, the lift is so high on the exh. cam is so high that the VVT will put the valve into the piston. I'm gonna pull the CEL bulb.

the cel bulb is an led. you are going to need a soldering iron.

Put a line reducer in the brake booster line to limit the volume of air movement through the line, it will keep it from popping out of the firewall

No you will not, just a 9V battery and a couple of jumper wires, the LED will fry instantly

There is a check valve on the brake booster itself. We have vac lines running directly from the IM to the grommet in the firewall

The led is rated at 1.7V if red 4V if white, led's must have a resistor series to limit the current. If you touch a 9V battery to the anode and cathode directly, you will fry the LED

    That's what I assumed.

I do plan to upgrade the cams in the future and I'll try and do a log of a before and after to see how quickly the boost comes on.

But from your description... having the BAT start spooling at ~2200rpm would be sick.

    Fry the LED?

I've had one explode before by me being lazy and not installing a current limiting resistor.

no need to fry you can put a resistor in the plug
Do you have stiffer springs in the motor???

The hose from the firewall to the booster is the one popping off, I think I might just install a check valve on the eng side of the firewall, I have a few laying around at work. The cams took about 1.5 hours to install, on a hot motor no less. I have Ferrera valve springs and titanium retainers. Just make sure to not start the motor for about 30 mins after your done. The lifters need time to settle from having the cams out.

I do not know if you have a panduit gun (zip tie) or not. A nice and tight zip tie should take care of the popping off issue.

I have those springs and retainers also take a look at this picture it shows the exhaust cams oem and revolver...the gear moved on the revolver car was running fine but i was getting the cam code so i removed them..i am now on the stock cams i think the added resistance from the springs and the fact that there are no keys to hold the gear is the cause

I'm not sure. I know Bob @ QED is drilling and installing roll pins in the end on all the CAT cams he has and or sells. If this is the case with your cams, then that will be a case with both CAT and Revolvers. I'll Vag. it right now to see. Just checked it and the only cam related code I have is for having the adjuster/tens. unplugged. I thought I would have one for the cam pos. sensor being as the cam isn't where the ECU is saying it should be, get it?

no mine didnt have that and I am not sure those pins can hold at 8500rpm...Can you do comp test i wanna know how much you have with those cams...Mine was compressing 120psi with the revover cams and the car run fine..with the stock I have 150psi..I can't believe how close I was to destroying the motor
