According to ZF, the maximum input torque (engine) rating for the 5HP19FLA trans is 420 Nm or ~310 ft*lbf.

Yeah I mentioned that in a post a few months ago. Another member said that it was a mistake on ZF's part. Hopefully it isn't since the 5HP19FLA is used on so many Audi/VW cars with much higher torque ratings than our 1.8T's. I can say with my own personal experience that through all the 3 stages of REVO programming my A4 went through, the tranny has held up well and feels as strong and is holding through the gears as it did day one. What someone needs to do for us is figure out how to break the TCU programming so we can modify the shift points, linepressure, etc... without going into the tranny and beefing up the internals. I feel that our ZF tranny's can hold power mods well especially the GTRS.

Have you ever neutral dropped on your car?

You do you mean ^^^? Put the car in neutral, rev, then shift to drive? If so, then NO. Becasue I want my tranny to last and this is something stupid that I've never done to any of my personal (automatic) cars, nor will ever do this to launch my cars, and I have no need to, plus I'm too old for this that's why all our cars are automatics now. I've done my time back in the late 1970's to early 1980's revving the crap of my 4 speed (yes 4 speed) cars and later 1980's 5 speed manual tranny cars, dropping hte clutch and launching the s%&t out of them to go fast. Those days are gone and well forgotten.

Re: PSA Max torque rating of 5 speed tip trans..

There was a discussion on this long time ago. Somebody pointed out that the torque rating they provided in that ZF manual is incorrect. I hope it's 310 lbs*ft!

I don't know of any information from ZF that says the 420 Nm rating is not correct, stating a different rating is actually right. As knowledgable as many are, the only authority here is ZF. Evidence that this rating is accurate is supported by the fact that this trans is also used by Audi in other models including the 2.7T and 4.3l V8, with earlier applications in A/S4s, A6s and A8s.

I know that ZF makes some of the best auto trannies around so I wouldn't be surprised if it's underrated.

I agree, ZF's are a quality trans. BMW's been using them on some models for a long time. T

Thats exactly what I mean. And what im getting at is if the auto will be able to handle a beating as is.

Well the tranny itself will last as long if its not abused, just with any other component in a car. Neutral dropping, torque braking will damage the tranny nad wear down the internals, but taking off from a stop from idle should not do harm.

    I remember that ^^^ thread.

For me personally, with the way the car has been performing from REVO stg 1 then stg 2 programing(BI program) with race gas being well beyond the 310nm or ~ 230lb of torque, and now with the GTRS, I am led to believe, and it may just be wishful thinking or the Germans are underrating thier designs and/or over designing/engineering, that the tranny is rated at 420nm with maybe a little more room to go. The tranny has not slipped during regular driving and sprited driving.

Indeed. I've been on REVO Stage 2 for quite a while. No slipping thus far. Knock on wood.
