I got the unit on eBay for $650 and install was about $350 (including the wiring harness kit and dash kit). The unit has the ability to change the backlight colors to match the interior.

That looks very nice. Do you like it? Is there anything you dont like? I was looking at the pioneer avic but I havent discounted the kenwood as yet. Does the Kenwood have 2 optical drives? One for audio/video and one for the gps?

I have had it installed since around mid-February and I really like it. I love satellite radio and if you purchase the additional modules, you can get bluetooth, etc.

The GPS is a hard-drive based system, so it just has one drive that plays DVDs, MP3 CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, etc.

I wanted the D3, but it didnt have a hard drive and everytime you want to switch destination you have to pop in the DVD. Thats what made me get my z2. 40 gig hard drive. automatically rips any CD put in the car onto the drive. room for over 250 CD's LOVE IT. Btw you paid 350 for a install. The harness is 20 bucks, the dash kit is 30

so 300 bucks for a 1 hour install?.......

Gosh, I know I have to go search but has anyone successfully installed one of those units in a pre facelift 98.5? Don't tell me I would have to do a facelift console swap or something... ?

I just didn't feel like running the satellite radio antenna from the back trunk area and I read where some folks were having issues with their Bose system and aftermarket radios (popping sounds); which in turn was causing premature failures of the aftermarket radios. Additionally, wrt the GPS antenna, the installer did an awesome job of hiding the wiring.

Maybe he was just going slow, but I waited around for the car and it took right at 3 hours for the complete install. So, perhaps I paid too much, but it looks and sounds great. The other shop wanted to wire around the Bose system and they were going to charge $700 for the install, so at that point, I considered $350 a fair deal.

Yea the wiring on the bose system was a bit crappy but he made special plug in coax adapters so its perfect.

RNS-e is waaaayy to expensive, and aftermarket usnits just look out of place in our consols however that kenwood unit does look good, especialy 4 the price.. looks like its $900 new on crutchfield

I also priced it on Crutchfield and locally at CarToys; at the time, they were $999, so I thought $650 was a good deal. CarToys was the place that wanted to charge $700 for the install plus $999 for the unit itself ... ouch.

If anyone is interested, I got it new from a seller on eBay (he has one listed right now; item number 300215476214 - total ~$660). Shipping may seem a bit high, but he uses FedEx for shipping; I had it the next day.
