    Brakes smoking?

I just pushed my car probably as hard as I've ever pushed it. About half way home, I started smelling brakes. I figured, okay, the brake pads are relatively new, probably still just burning off a little of the new. Well it got worse and worse, then i started to notice fade, lots of it. I had to almost put the pedal to the floor at the last turn. I stop when i get onto my road and check all four corners. I get the the right front and see it is billowing smoke. Not sure how normal that is? But by the time I got home, which is 3 miles uphill with no brakes from where I stopped, all the brake fade was gone and no smoke.

I'm not looking to get flamed for driving fast by the way, everyone does it occasionally, and I for the most part only do it on roads where I know I'm the only person at risk.

    Re: Brakes smoking?

Haha...man, me thinks you've cooked your first set of pads. If they were newer and not yet broken in properly then you can definitely kiss em goodbye. They will smoke if you really work em but if you feel like you have to stand on the pedal it means they're glazed and are not working properly anymore. They might start squealing now in the next few days too.

    Re: Brakes smoking?

By the time I got home, I no longer had to stomp on the pedal to get the car to stop. All the fade was gone.
