    To those with V1 Hardwired

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a b6 s4 and just got myself V1 detector. Planning to do the hardwire install this wkend.
Just wondering which place do you guys tap for GROUND and for power..

I am planning to use the sunroof/reading light dome for power but i have read in various thread that using one of the screws inside the sunroof/reading light dome isnt a good source.

    Can anyone chime in?

    thanks

its not that much more difficult to run a black phone wire from the fusebox (tap the washers or any of the other, many switched sourecs) up the pillar, to the V1. if you do this, you can ground it at any chassis point.

Re: To those with V1 Hardwired

I tapped mine into the fuse box and ran the wire up the A pillar. Its really easy to conceal the wire very well with a butter knife or tongue depresser. It was way easier than I expected and if I did it again it would take all of 15 minutes.

Re: To those with V1 Hardwired

there should be a write up on here or AW. tap a fuse in the fuse box and ground it right there. super easy. it took me 15 minutes to transfer it from my a4 to the s4.

    great! Thx guys.
Did you have to remove the headliner and the pillar to run the wires to the fuse box?

I bought it used from a fellow AZ member along with the conseal display(the one that LI-S4 made).. Will post pics after the install.

Re: To those with V1 Hardwired

No, I didnt remove anything except the fuse box cover which pops off with a flathead screwdriver (I covered the head in cloth to avoid scratching). The wire will tuck into the headliner no problem and I used a butter knife to tuck it behind the A-pillar. At the bottom of the A-pillar there is a slit that the cord fits into perfectly.

Autozone sells a little thing that plugs into a fuse in the box with a power lead wire comming off of it, then you just plug your fuse back in the top. Really clean OEM look. I used the fuse for the "homelink" or whatever the garage door opener thing is called. Works great. I just used a small screwdriver or a credit card and pused the wire up into the headliner and down the a-pillar. can't even see it, and the whole think took like 10 minutes. Hardest part was popping the cover to the fuse panel off. yea its that easy.

Seriously, am I missing something? How does one get the V1 display into the Audi instrument cluster display? I assume the display is saying K signal, strength 3, straight ahead. Or is someone just havin' fun with me?

I have a V1 with a broken speaker so I'm getting ready to send it back for a repair and upgrade. I'd like to order whatever else I need at the same time if it's stuff I need to get from Valentine.

do a search for V1 concealed display here and on AudiWorld. I forget what that thing is called. It's good and bad though. If you are low on gas, you can't see the readout. Then you also get no song/temp readings either. But people like it.

it's the ADR interface, and yes, if you are low on gas you don't see a readout. the volume is still audible though. i've had my V1 for so long, I know which bands sound like what. without the arrows on the display, it's just like any other display ;)

...and when you're using the bluetooth enabled phone through the audio system. It's very easy to switch the display back to the V1 when you are low on gas or on the phone.
Cool stuff with a little growl!
