    Rear brake rotor removal

My friend from work has a 99 A6 2.8 he was trying to change his rear rotors out but he said he needs a special tool . He took off the caliper and the carrier but the rotor does not move. I thought the setup would have been similar to the my A4 which is very easy to change. Does anyone know what this tool is called? I told him the rotor is probably rusted to the hub, But I didnt look at it so I have no clue. Please help. Thanks.

    Re: Rear brake rotor removal

I just changed the pads on my B6 S4 and they have the same issue. The cylinder in the bore of the caliper rotates as it moves in and out. Like a corkscrew. All you need is a "C" clamp and either vise grips or channel locks to grap the lip of the cylinder. Compress the cylinder with the C clamp and then rotate to cylinder and it will move in and out.

Link to another forum discussing this tool. But you don't need it.

    Re: Rear brake rotor removal

I just put new rotors on my B5 S4. I thought that I needed a tool as well, but the rotors where just rusted to the hub. I used a mallet to bang the shit out of the rotor, and then I pulled hard as hell, and the rotor came off.

$5 dollar 9inch gear puller from Harbor Freight tools or similar cheap tool spot. Banging on it with a mallet is fun but it wakes the neighbors!!!
