    Thumbs up DIY oil cooler

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Last weekend I did a junkyard run looking for misc vw/audi parts and came across this aftermarket oil cooler on a 944 turbo, hmmm... pulled it off w/ earl's lines & thermostatic sandwich plate. a whopping $25 for everything. just had to make longer lines. so picked up like 5 feet of an10 line that cost about 30 bucks. hope size 10 line isn't too big, but if a 944 4 banger can handle it, so can my A4. here's some pics. $55 oil cooler setup!

82mm je pistons, scat rods, ported & polished aeb head. gt2871r, atp hi flow manifold (ported). 580cc injectors on custom giac tune. Once you boost, you'll never go back....

    Keep in mind a 944 is a 2.5L and their turbo's are huge compared to the K03's.. (kkk26 and kkk27in the S's)

Asside from that, that is an awesome cooler! Love where you mounted it!

Hell I think I have one of those oil coolers in my shed...Hmm

944's came with N/A 4 cylinders, the 951 was the turbo variant. Depending on the year(and sub model) made the difference if it was a 2.5L or a 3.0L 4 cyl.

    THe 944 S non turbo had a 2.7L. No 944 turbo had over a 2.5L.

The 968 was the next in line to the throne with its 3.0L 4 cylinder. Biggest factory produced 4 cyl. to date.

Summit and 034 sell thermostatic sandwich plates. You need the ones that accept a 3/4-16 thread. They are quite priced a bit better too.

    It's one of these. http://www.summitracing.com/search/?...sandwich&dds=1
I had to shorten the shaft where the oil filter screws onto, besides that it's bolt on. Works perfect with no leaks.

It's been on my car for 3000+ miles.

figured i would bump this instead of starting a new thread. i am installing an oil pressure gauge soon and i figured at the same time i might as well do an external oil cooler.

to clarify: if i buy this: http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-...r-p-19652.html I can eliminate the stock cooler and use the sandwich plate in its place, and simply run the lines to and from an external cooler?

Yes, but I would suggest saving the money and buying the Jegs sandwich plate. Mine works great. $22 can't be beat
