HELP ME OUT! 18s or 19s that is the question..?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So ive decided to get rs4 reps in onyx black, but to me 19s look a little to big but 18s look a little to small... I cant decide and if i were to get the 19s i would have to wait until july to pick them up since they are on back order and the 18s i would be able to get in like a week, help me decide!

19's... Just buy a different wheel.
Or look in the classified for Rs4 reps.
Its a common wheel that most people sell once they find out
how soft they are and how quickly they peel.

19's are perfect on the car. it seems like as the body changes on the a4 you need to go up if anything. B6's looked fine with 18's but on a B7, they look kind of small. From the pics I see, B8's are going to need 20's.

Re: HELP ME OUT! 18s or 19s that is the question..?

Here, I have worked out a logical solution to your dilemma.

Let's say "U" = Utility or happiness that you will obtain
Here are the 2 variables: 18 and 19. But the most happiness you can obtain is 100% Anything more would be ridiculous and non-existent!

    so 100 = 18 x U, U = ~5.56
    and 100 = 19 x U = ~5.26

So at 100% happiness you will you will be happier with an 18" wheel than 19". Because 5.56 > 5.26, duh! But why would you be happier with a 18" than a 19"? This is because of the law of marginal diminishing value.

ROFL... I'm just kidding- do whatever makes you happy man.

19" will always look better than 18". If you're buying new, you might as well spend the extra to get what looks best.

Re: HELP ME OUT! 18s or 19s that is the question..?

Go big or go home!! Honestly, when I went from stock 17's to 19" RS4 reps, I didn't feel any difference in ride comfort. I certainly felt more bumps on the road, but it wasn't as bad as I had expected. Tires are also part of the equation in ride comfort. I had Bridgestone Potenza RE960 all-seasons (I know, all-seasons ) on the 19's, which were softer than my stock Conti SportContact 2 and ended up sacrificing handling for comfort. Now that I downgraded to 18's with Kumho Ecsta SPT summers, the ride became harsher over bumps, but I'm now able to push my car harder around corners.

19's with Michelin PS2 is the way to go!

I use my stock 18's for the winter and these 19's for the summer.
I live in Chicago also and have never had a problem with potholes.
Just buy some quality wheels and not cheap, soft, Rs4 reps and you'll be fine.

You might think there cheap and soft, but they look ten times better than that. Furthermore I have never had a problem with the quality of these wheels.
Its your opinion and thats great but I should think that the majority of people on this forum that own these wheels would disagree with your constant bashing of the quality and look of the RS4 reps.

I dont bitch and moan. People ask for opinions when they post their pics. If I dont like the wheel im going to say I dont like it.
I do not like Rs4 reps because they are soft and tend to flake within a few months of use. I have seen this on a number of VMR and Hartmann reps.
If you ever look in the classified wheel section you will see evidence of this over and over and over again.
Im sorry you're in denial about it but you'll eventually find out for yourself.
If you dont like my wheels and think yours look better thats fine.
Not everyone can like the same wheels. I can understand that and not get upset about it.
If you don't like what I have to say in my posts just use the forum ignore feature. Otherwise deal with it.

Re: HELP ME OUT! 18s or 19s that is the question..?

In my opinion, 18's brought out to the fenders with a lowered suspension with just a finger of wheel gap makes them seem so much bigger. But it all depends on the wheel, some wheels look ridiculously big in 19, and some 18's look real tiny. So just go with what fits best with your setup.

Re: HELP ME OUT! 18s or 19s that is the question..?

If you go for cast wheels you are likely to have problems with 19 inch wheels due to the 35 series tires - they will be too brittle. Therefore 18" would be the better option.

If you are going to spend the money and buy forged wheels, then 19" would be better.

I have heard OZ Ultra Leggerra's to be a good choice.

If I get forged wheels, they will be 19"

I agree with what JMG stated.

Re: HELP ME OUT! 18s or 19s that is the question..?

    Chris,
I was in the exact same dilemma and live in Pittsburgh, PA which has a lot of hills/bumps and very rough roads overall. I went with 18s with a pirelli all season tires and love them but I got a drop and still think I need the look of the 19s. I started with stock 16s and the ride didn't suffer at all when going up to 18 inches. I don't think it will be that much different going to a 19. It all comes down to personal preference but you need to do it right the first time!

Re: HELP ME OUT! 18s or 19s that is the question..?

I have stock Sport Suspension and am thinking of getting the VMR 18" reps, mainly because of the durability over crappy roads. i think Channad's car looks great with that setup. I just don't know what tires to get!

Re: HELP ME OUT! 18s or 19s that is the question..?

So if I get 19" RS4 reps on my B7 S-line with the OEM sport suspension, I'll need to get in lowered further?

I saw the series of pics on the FAQ post where it shows 19s on a non sport suspension, then on the OEM suspension, and finally a lowered version. If you scroll down on this thread, you'll see them:

I thought the 19" RS4 reps on the stock sport suspension looked pretty good.
