    Quattro + MisMatched Tires??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I read somewhere that different sized tires on the front & back will mess up a quattro transmission... To what extent is this true?

Will 255/35/ZR18 fronts & 255/40/ZR18 rears cause any problems?

If I'm not mistaken, the different diameters would cause a difference in the revolutions between the front and rear axles. This difference would cause excessive wear on the center diff.

That's my understanding of it at least.

    Re: Quattro + MisMatched Tires??

That little aspect ratio difference results in a height difference of about an inch. That is a pretty big difference. A 255/40-18 is a tall tire compared to the 225/45-17 stock size or our standard fatty sizes of 235/40-17 (a little shorter) or 245/40-17 (almost dead on). A 255/40-17 is a little taller than stock and the equivalent of a 255/35-18.

make shure that you rotate the front to back also because my understanding is that the tires need to wear the same or that can be an issue and if you had tires on there for a while and got a flat i was told that you need to buy all four tires or have that one shaved
