hey guys, just a lil update. since the pistons from my motor (120k miles) looked so good, i decided to re-use my OEM pistons instead of going w new or aftermarket. just for a lil insurance i decided to re-coat them so they could last me another 120k miles.

i got my pistons back from SWAIN. i had the domes coated w GoldCoat™ Ceramic Armor™ Ceramic Thermal Barrier, and the skirts w PC-9™ Solid Film Lubricant. for all (6) to be cleaned, coated and sent back to me cost ~$375.

i dont expect any gains w this, rather did it as insurance to make sure the pistons were coated, and to add some surface to the pistons so that the cylinders can hold better compression. anyways... i can wait to get this bloody thing back together. until then... Thanks for looking, that is all.

I think Swain advertises $38 for the two coatings together in various magazines. The rest would be shipping and handling costs.

Coatings are generally better for street driven and drag cars than for endurance racers. The endurance cars build too much heat and the coatings limit how much heat can be transferred by the piston to the oil via the oil squirters.

Sexy. Swaintech is only a ten minute drive from me...too bad I don't have my engine up here otherwise I'd get em done and save on shipping. Don't really need it though, since I got less than 20k on the shortblock.
