Lowers aren't as bad as seized upper. Just incase have a torch and a big hammer, because you may have to beat the shit out of them to get them out.

A4 and S4 control arms are identical except for 2000 S4 where the lowers had a thicker bit that went into the upright. (Because uprights were aluminum)

5w30 is just fine. I was (and will continue to be) using 5w30 Castrol Syntec oil in my fully built motor with 35R turbo and have not had any oil-related issues. You will be fine.

    Re: my work for friday...

well, just got back from spraying down each bolt with PB. let that stuff soak overnight. got my boxes of parts in the trunk ready for the trip up to the shop. probably toss in the seafoam before i leave. about 30 miles one way up there. but its worth it. 15 bay shop with each and every possible tool you could need. about 4 chassis lifts and 5 or 6 other lifts (the kind where you drive directly onto the lift...good for changing oil. not so good for taking the wheels off.) all for a solid $3/hr. air force has its privileges i guess. i'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

    Re: my work for friday...

well, a little update. got most everything accomplished. got all the control arms replaced (ended up using an air hammer on the pinch bolts...knocked right out). got the cv boots replaced. (those vag boot clamps are teh ghey. ended up getting universal clamps because i didnt have the special tool needed to cinch down the vag ones). replaced the cam chain tensioner while i was waiting for the shop guys to get back with the cv boot clamps. that was a fun little job. only thing i didnt get done was seafoaming the crap out of it and changing the oil. ill get to that in a few days. weekends over. got to go back to work tomorrow. and plus, 11 hours in the shop will make me want to have a little break from that place.
