A view of our 4.2L not often seen.

A couple of things I noticed while taking these pices:

The pistons skirts are teflon coated.
The Block has teflon sleeves and oil squirters.
The Crankshaft is coated to shed oil.
All the bearing surfaces were smooth.
The timing chain and guides don't really show signs of wear after more than 40K.
And the most notable is that the exhaust manifold seems to be a well engineered maybe over-engineered piece. There are two blot holes that run through the middle of the thing.

I probably took to many but I figured it was a one time chance and I may have missed something.
And you all probably know who's car this is from and no i still have no info on exactly what is happening.

    Sean

I've been lucky enough to meet some real stand up guys down here, and thus I got the pics, the owners of the shops were some of the nicest people I've met down here, even offered to let me ride or drive (whichever you call it) the stool-cart.

I really like my B6 and hope to drive it for a while, my car has about the same milage on it and I was very curious to see how the parts looked after 40K. Also my car is laid up too with a cracked rocker arm, I am hoping to get pics of that too, it is just more information to add to our knowledge of our cars.

I really don't have any info to share on the build, it's not mine, I'm waiting too to see the outcome.

    Thanks for the kind comments.

Appreciate the the very nice pictures.

Makes me think down pipes would be of little benefit.

Now my big question is the heads.......?

Your picture has 5 valves, and the specs for my car (07' rs 4) is 4 valves, so now I'm un-certain of what engine has a 5 valve head?

    TIA

The S4 has the non FSI motor which has 5 valves per cylinder. Due to the size constraints of the FSI injector it was impossible to use 5 valves thats why you have 4V per cylinder

A tubular manifold would be a great help by the looks of the OEM piece. I'm sure there are space issues, and installation would mean pulling the engine.

Anyone have a PIC of the RS4 exhaust manifold?

Looks like she burns a little oil...

Those roller rockers are definitely cool.

My guess is they'll at least be balancing that crankshaft to a higher spec.

Looks like there is some scoring/heat damage on one of the main bearings and quite a bit on the cam bearings. Wonder if these con rods feature the "broken" separation area so that each rod has a cap that can't be exchanged to another rod.

The RS4 pic can't be right, when compared with the ones from V-8. Also those manifolds are for a V8 with two turbos, which seem to be set back in the engine bay. Which car are they from? A C5 RS6 maybe?

ETKA seems to use the RS6 engine as an illustration for all 4.2l engines... Sorry, didn't catch that... In the upper part of the images you have the S4 and RS4 manifolds(marked 1 & 2)...
