    I inverted my hyperboost dv.. Hearing a little more sound.. Any defects that should occur.. Should I not have it inverted?

    very interesting information on the DV. Some seem to hold pressure better in reverse.

    hope it helps!

    link isnt working for me

    but i dont see how it could possibly perform better...if it performed better they would be designed to go that way

    ummm weird... google "the great deverter valve face off"

    9 dv tested and 6 out of 9 perform better when reversed:

    stock bosch TT = reverse
    stock bosch 1998= normal
    Forge= reverse
    stratmosphere hyperboost= reverse
    stratmoshere hyperboost adjustable= reverse
    shimmed forge= reverse
    bailey = normal
    porsche= normal
    turbo xs = reverse

    Yes, that is a reasonable conclusion, but in the case of OEM or after market Diaphragm type DVs, a careful analysis of the several forces involved with the diaphragm motion from the spring and the different control signal air pressures at various operating points, and the influence of the differential pressures between the inlet and discharge ports at different operation points, clearly reveals that the forces holding the DV closed, assisted by the control signal air pressure forces adding to the spring force, are a lot higher in the "Reverse from OEM" orientation. Not only is the closed DV seating force higher, the balance of forces existing when the DV is opening, helps the DV open faster. Then when the control signal air pressure crossed the zero point increasing from neg pressure/vac to positive boost, assisted by the inlet to discharge port differential pressure forces on the diaphragm helps the DV close again quickly after gear shifts in the "Reverse from OEM" installation orientation. It's hard to visualize without spending some time contemplating each of the forces one at a time, then together when the DV flow and diaphragm positions vary under different engine loads and throttle valve angles along with the associated manifold pressures that are dynamically interrelated with each other.

    I can't find the supporting evidence now, but I think I remember reading that way back when the TT was fairly new, there were a lot of complaints about odd honking and farting noises, so AoA advised that the DV be reinstalled reversed. I don't know for sure what the original orientation was, but considering that the current flow direction is contrary to best DV performance, it would tend to confirm that the real original installation orientation was actually the "Reverse from OEM" direction compared to the OEM direction now.

    the R1 is a piece of shit...

    atleast the first batch. most people sell theirs and just get a Forge or Baileys

    and read the article and what diagnosticator said. piston DV's do better inverted, and they make more noise

    well...i dont have a first batch R1

    also...APR stands behind their product and, should i ever have a problem with my R1, they would replace it. Also...I'm only about 1 1/2 hours away from their headquarters
