    Newbie Questions

    Hello.

I have been lurking for a while and this seems to be one of the best Audi forums, in terms of post quality and member contribution.

I just sold my 06' Mustang (pic below for those that care) and am looking at purchasing and 06 2.0T, quattro with the S-line package. The Mustang was a very tough daily driver (had some perf, mods, etc..)

    I have a couple questions:

    1. What do you think is a fair value for the A4 with 20K miles? There are two dealers in my local area that have a similar car priced at 25K and 26K.. I think that seems a little high seeing a new A4 is hitting the showroom in the fall. What are your opinions?

    2. In terms of lowering, what are the best options (yes I am already starting to plan for mods w/o owning the car). In mustang world, it was a set of eibach springs and either eibach or tokico dampers.

    3. or will the S-line look ok with 19" rims and not being lowered?.. I am looking at a Iforged monoblock rims.

    Thanks for your help...

    Re: Newbie Questions

You're going to want to lower it. Here is why:

In order from lowest to highest (not including race springs or coilovers):

19" wheels on Neuspeed Sport springs

19" wheels on H&R Sport springs

19" wheels on Eiback Pro kit

19" wheels on OEM Sport suspension

Clearly, the S-line suspension is not low enough if you want to run 19" wheels. Wheel gap looks fucking ridiculous on any vehicle, and it will look 100x better if you fix that right away. You can either go with a sport spring (pictures above) for $250ish and keep your stock shocks if you want to stay inexpensive, or else spend $800-900 on coilovers and get the whole package with adjustable height.

Obviously coilovers are more versatile and will re-sell for the most, but some of us just want a comfortable, mild drop that doesn't cost much so we stick with sport springs.

As for what a 2006 A4 with 20,000 miles will cost, it depends on what is all included. What are their options?
    Ignorance is bliss.

    Re: Newbie Questions

Thank you for the pictures.. I will definitely want to lower the car to get rid of that fender gap. I think coil overs would probably be the best bet. I have lowered many cars before and LA freeways are way too bumpy to run on stock shocks, although I am not as familiar with Audi suspension.

Both of the a4's I am looking at are 2.0 quattro's with the S-line package (no navi).

If they are CPO, $25,000-$26,000 is a very good price with those options.

If you are going to be using this as a DD on bumpy roads and want to go the coilover route, look into Stasis Street Sports. They come highly recommended in the Audi world and provide awesome value/ride for its price. It is also made by a very reputable manuf. Can't go wrong with Stasis/Vogtland/H&R/Koni

    Re: Newbie Questions

Interesting to see someone come from a Mustang GT to the A4. I only say that since I was seriously considering the Mustang over my A4. Stock 300hp is hard to beat at that price. Additionally the S197 Mustang is great looking. My real concern was the 'novelty' would wear off real quick. The daily ride is not nearly as fine tuned as the A4 and with a BT kit you can get 300hp with a manual tranny, however I ended up with a crappy tip.

Anyways! I have been thinking of going the Stasis Street Sports myself. After reading many reviews, they seem to be worth the money.

    Good luck!

    Re: Newbie Questions

outfit28, you are right on with your assessment.

I bought the car because it was the best bang for the buck. It is hard to find a sub 30K car rated at 300 hp/ 320lbs or torque... The car is a lot fun to drive and Ford finally got it right this time around. The car was built rock solid and there are a ton of after-market parts for the car.. Nonetheless, the novelty did wear off, especially as the wife could not drive it (with the Hurst shifter) and it was very wearing as a daily driver...

I checked out the Stasis Web site. Thanks for the tip... I am going to do some research.
