Thumbs down lets talk about AFE intakes...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i would just like to say (after chalking up my last eurethane reducer coupling to noobism and beer) that after AFE sent me another reducer coupling for free, there is a reason:
buying an AFE stage II "CAI" or more spot on, a TIP, is both an illogical and retarded move, i sounds good for me, but i want to drive my fugg'n car for more than 5 miles WITHOUT having to pull over and re-fit my ing TIP because the ing coupler managed to ing blow right off the turbo inlet...a breif synopsis: help. the OE TIP is trashed and i plan on running a lot more upgrades, silicone?

For the stock turbo, K03/K04 get the Forge TIP!

The Forge costs much less than the Neuspeed, and fits better!

Get one from Forge, or one of their distributors:

Re: lets talk about AFE intakes...

it was a biatch!!! it is the reason i went with the k04, one of the bushing in the inside ripped and went through the turbo... and bent some fins. i dont think it was a good decision on my part but oh well.

Should of searched for AFE before you bought one dawg. Thats why I made that write-up so no one would make the same mistake buying a poorly engineered POS.

I agree, it was a huge bitch to install this, but once I got it on I haven't had any problems with it sliding off. Installing it with the K04 tomorrow, wish me luck.

Re: lets talk about AFE intakes...

OK, it seems that you guys hate the AFE intake, I just installed 1 on my '02 last month.
I have an early '02 a4 so my crankcase breather valve is on my tip instead of @ the back of the valve cover. Well that is my biggest gripe with them..... it didn't mention that they created the kit for 03 on, otherwise I kinda like the intake. I paid $180 for it shipped, install was a bitch cause it wasn't made for my tip. Not a big deal I just cut the metal pipe and bought the rubber hoses for the setup behind the valve cover. Overall fitment is decent and I feel it complemented the apr stage 1+. (which was done the week before)
It does kinda whistle @ light load around 2-3k which can get annoying.

Re: lets talk about AFE intakes...

Yea for the crankcase breather valve extra hole I just filled one of the 90 degree fittings with silicone and let it dry to plug it. About the K04, it's funny that I said everything was fine cuz when I took out the intake the coupler that slips on to the turbo was ripped a good 1/3 around from the clamp cutting it just like yours. Luckily I was able to buy another silicone one at the hardware store and it's been running fine with the K04 ever since. Now the issue is the hard pipe smashing against the headlight since it won't fit with the shitty airbox/heatshield attatched. Right now I'm running it without the heatshield but it needs one BAD some I plan on fabbing one once I figure out where to get the material.
