If you look around you might be able to find an A5 for MSRP. I'd guess there are no special lease deals on an A5. You might try leasecompare.com.

I'm so sick of this. I get 5 calls a day from people begging to pay MSRP for a car, and there's always that one guy who wants a "deal".

If you want a deal, buy a japanese car. If you want the hottest vehicle on the road, be prepared to pay what it's worth.

Hey, I just spotted one on ebay last night. White exterior + black inside. The dealer is asking a bit over $46 or something like that. Nav + upgraded sound system... take a look yourself.

Nothing wrong for looking for a deal. So he probably won't find one and they he will have to decide wehter he wants to spend the money to get the car. However not looking around for a deal is just stipid. If you went to buy and japanese car and were not looking for a deal I am sure some blood thristy salesman would charge as much as he could and then say, he didnt try to deal it down. So chill.

We had been telling everyone that our next A5 wouldn't come until Sept -Oct. I just heard today that we have one that will be available in July. I'll know more about it on monday. FYI to anyone who is interested: If you plan on floating this car over seas DO NOT RESPOND, DO NOT PM ME. This car is for a true Audi fan in America. MSRP will be the cost.

Totally agree with MSRP. I just don't like the fact you guys push it up over MSRP.

There's no holdback so that's probably why some dealers are pissed and won't sell for less than msrp.

I remember someone up here talked about this before. He said the lease is around $900 for the A5 --> Audi still isn't that much confidence in their cars' resale value after all.

The first part is true. THe second part is not entirely correct/incorrect. Audi is having no problem selling their newest hard-to-get-but-soon-to-be high volume A5 therefore, they do not need to incentivize the product by A.) buying down the "money factor" or interest rate at which the car is being leased or B.) Audi has not yet gotten the current averages of the residual values from other sources IE; banks, leasing companies and credit unions.

I'm sure they have all the confidence in the world that a car like this will yield a high residual value when the time comes to place it. Please someone correct me if I am wrong in my thought process.

    Re: Any deals on A5??

A high residual value means that the finance company is on the hook for the car. While high residuals mean that a car will lease better, some of the residuals that we have seen recently are very misleading.

For example, BMW X3 residuals were ridiculous, 78% for 24 months at one point. Take a 40K MSRP X3. Who in their right mind is going to buy a 2 year used X3 for $32K + reconditioning fees + CPO fees? By the time the car hits the front-line again at a dealer, it's $37K....about invoice for a brand new $40K X3. Because of poor long-term planning, BMW is getting killed by these off-lease cars. In a recent conversation with some friends in the BMW circles (both in sales and working for BMW NA), they are planning on cutting their "lease portfolio" by 15-20%. This is already in the works as almost all BMW leases went up 40-70 from April to May.

As far as pricing of the cars go, we Americans are really lucky and spoiled. With the A5/S5 models, the demand is high world-wide. Audi is most profitable in the UK, European, and Asian markets while the American market is not a money maker at all. Since this is the case, if you have the rep in the UK asking for more cars and the rep from the US asking for "marketing support" to sell a hot car, what would you do? I personally would say screw u to the rep in the US and allocate more cars to the UK where they will appreciate the car and the help from the factory as well as returning more profit. The current money factors that Audi Financial has are right around prime rate, which means they are not buying it down (because they don't and shouldn't have to). The residuals are realistic IMHO. The 52% 36/15k residual is what I would expect a 3yr/45K mile A5 to sell for in the future.

    Re: Any deals on A5??

52% residual after 3 years is something expected to an Audi product. BMW hold their value much better due to:
    1. They have more options available to pick --> with just a rear shade + navigation, a used 06 5 series is 3-4k more expensive than another w/o those. While for Audi A6, it seems that every car has the same things expect w or w/o start button which people don't really care (or at least Audi fans just don't give that much attention to those)
    2. Majority of people still think a) if i don't need AWD then i don't need to get one to waste more gas b) BMWs are performance cars, they are the best...blah blah blah... ---> larger buyers pool --> increases demand --> jack up the price.

Although Audi has been slowly gaining trust in the US but still, if you open Consumer Report which affects a lot of decision making, you will see how Audi has a relatively low reliability compare to many others. I'm Asian so I know exactly how the Asian think. Top is Merc, second is Bmw and third is Toyota. People make their decision just by that. Asia can be a new market but will never be the best place for Audi.

China is huge when it comes to Audis. Audi is the most popular premium brand in China. There are A6's everywhere there along with Q7s. There are more of them on the road than BMWs or Mercedes, which doesn't surprise me considering Europeans and the rest of the world except North America opt for Audi.

I really don't know what this article is all about but it's NOT right. Don't based your opinion on one single article. I know what I'm talking about here. Audi may turn out to be "preferred" in some particular/local survey but don't say that "there are more".

Anyways let's get back to the original topic. I just stopped by my local Audi dealer for service checkup and I talked to an old friend working there. He said that although people said the A5/S5 have been selling above MSRP but none got sold above MSRP at most dealers around CT area. People up here are waiting to see more reviews and more A5/S5 coming soon from manufacture within the next few months. He also agreed with me on the fact that purchasing an Audi is a much better deal than leasing one because when you do a lease, dealers have more than just the sell price to make money from you.

You are wrong in some respect.
Just because your Asian doesn't mean you represent the whole population of Asia.
In China, which is Asia's BIGGEST market, Audi has 50%+ stronghold on the luxury sedan/suv market. One of the reason is because it is 10% cheaper than the rest of the competition, people love audi as it represents power in society, and also Audi has been in China longer than BMW and Mercedes have been.

I live in China, most luxury cars you see will have 4 rings on them

HongKong or other small cities which i believe you are from in Asia prefer Mercedes/BMW as their huge advertising has made it one of the most luxury brands you can get.

Don't presume you know everything because your "asian", Audi has done everything right in the Asian market to focus on CHINA, as it will surpass US very, very soon.

ALG does not agree with you. They set low MRMs for BMWs (because the used car market pricing for banks and dealers are based on an market average rather than single vehicles) and their residuals are actually VERY close to Audis. While navigation and rear-shade on a 5-series might mean more $$ to a used car buyer, these things are not reflected in the trade-in value nor auction prices in the amount that you're writing about. In fact, according to ALG, A4 2.0T sedans have a higher residual percentage than a 328 sedan.

Captive banks are different. Most captive banks are being badly hurt by these "high-residuals".
