    Went to the track

I raced at the track on Friday and ran a 13.7 and two13.8's stock, is that about right? Do you think with a cat delete, chip, and exhaust I would be in the low 13's?

This is what you'll be saying to your children.

"Sorry about the planet that you live on son, but guess what, I managed to shave 1/10 off my quarter mile time back in the day."

    Leave your cats on.

On a less serious note, downpipes and a catback might help. Also lighten up your load as much as possible.

Ahhhh, why didn't you say that in the frst place. You know, I think that removing your cats will actually slow down the car as you will lose some scavenging.

C'mon man, cars are NOT destroying the environment. Do you drive a Prius usually or do you drive cars like S4's and RS4's? You goint to tell your kids you saved the environment by getting 20mpg at best? Don't be a hipocrite.

The new CAFE (Consumer Average Fuel Economy - 35mpg on every car by 2020) laws are the biggest pile of crap I've ever heard of as well. Consumers account for 14% of the fuel burned for transportation, and those 14% of people are going to get hit hardest with penalties because our government doesn't know how to curb our oil consumption problem in a constructive way.

For example, ALL trucks should use the same principal as commuter trains -- Centralized power plant (engine) providing electrical power to individual motors in each wheel. Estimates put that at a 25% savings of fuel right there.

Agreed, why they gonna take away what little fun we have left on the road. Commercial shipping and transportation and power plants should be the first on the list. Then public transportation, along with building heating/cooling consumption.

Can you tell me where you got that info? It makes sense that consumer consumption is a small % of total usage and I'd like to have the reference. PM me if you'd like.

Also, who cares if one person doesn't make a difference? At least I know that I'm not unnecessarily contributing to the REAL problem that we have with the environment. Further, if everyone had the attitude (as most do) that "me being catless on my daily driver doesn't mean anything for the environment," then it will obviously make a difference. It be the truth. No ifs, ands, or buts.

I don't removing the cats will effect scavenging so long as the pipe size correct. I would say keep about 2.25" ID and that should keep it working nice.

I'm pretty sure RAudi's RS4 is not a daily driver. He has a much more fuel efficient machine for that.

I'm surprised I had to pay a gas guzzler's tax when every SUV and truck out there doesn't. Why doesn't the government tax them? Some loophole saying trucks are used for commercial use. SUVs get roped into the same category for some reason. I'm pretty sure all the soccer moms driving around SUVs aren't using them for their "business."

At any rate, there was this old, skinny, Indian dude that said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

I'm down for getting a Vespa...70 mpg!!! Who's with me?

I'll have to dig it out again but it was in an issue of Motor Trend from 2008. I believe it was one of the Angus Machenzie opening articles from one of those issues... again, I have it at home somewhere and I'll try to give you the exact issue. It was just one of those numbers that stuck out and I remembered.

    *EDIT*

I think that issue had a new Corvette on the cover.

The global climate problem is not going to be solved through restricted usage of gas, period. In fact, the overwhelming evidence points to carbon emissions as the leading factor of "global warming," but remember that "global warming" would only win in a civil case, not a criminal case. It is not proven completely that our burning oil is the 100% driving factor of increase CO2 in the atmosphere, it is only proven that there is an increase in CO2. There are hundreds of factors that could be causing this.

Truth - we should stop the livestock from farting and releasing a massive amount of methane into the atmosphere.

The earth certainly goes through climatic cycles however one thing is for certain is that there hasn't been this drastic of an increase of CO2 in the atmosphere in such a short period of time in our earth's history. Whether that be from flatulent livestock, human pollution, or dying forests, no one can say. However if you have ever sat in traffic at rush hour near any major city, it certainly makes an impact on the amount of shit we put into the air. I am by no means an eco-freak, in fact probably the exact opposite- i Drive a big ass V8! But I do enjoy winter activities and I want to keep that around as long as possible.

Good points. It is probably a combination of all of the above. I've learned a great deal about this particular subject because its important to me (and everyone) that the environment be protected as much as possible.

Here is the most important thing I've learned: If left untouched, nature has, and always will try to right itself and bring about balance to the environment. One way or another, humans are the cause of the fluctuations we are seeing now, but that doesn't mean its our gas-guzzling tendencies are the driving force behind this, just a contributor.

I still have my cats on. My RS4 Gets better mileage than my S4 did and it's gets the best mileage when it sits in the garage all week because I don't usually drive it.

You drive a car that gets bad gas mileage and you won't get a ticket. You drive a car without cats on the highway and you get a gigantic ticket. There's gotta be a reason for that.

Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing anyone who drives their S4 daily. I just don't see the reasoning behind removing your cats when there is nothing to gain. There are strict laws on cats and I am assuming that they knock out a considerable amount of the pollution that all automobiles spew out.

    Rant Over, drive on!

    Re: Went to the track

to the OP. no dps, cb, and chip will not take a high 13s into low 13s. its not creating that much more power to drop into the low 13s. 13.7/13.8 is about average. that may look like 13.5 in a different state. so its all relative.

but do NOT think buying dp/cb/chip will decrease your ETs to low 13s.

or don't take my word. buy them up and take yourself to the track and report back. that will help clear up more of the nay-sayers. i bet if your a 13.7 at best...you will be 13.5. let me know if the 3500 is worth it...it can be for some.
