What hose and sensor is this? (PICS)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My car started hesitating this morning. I had to rev it up for a while before I started driving. I knew it was probably a vac problem ,but the usual suspect(hose on intake manifold) was not the culprit. It looks to be this hose pictured and it looks like my superb mechanically inclined previous owner put some goop on it to remedy the problem. Is that a sensor located in the hose and what is the assembly called?

This is sooo funny because mine went bad this weekend and it makes a horrible noise when it boosts. Charlie(Audi Skate Snow) worked on it today and came up with a quick fix for the time being. Hose clamp it together. Worked all the way home from his place, about 45 miles.

The purpose of the suction pump is to supply a constant vac source (whether in vac and/or boost) to the brake booster as well as the EVAP system. The brake booster only uses vac when the brake pedal is down ... are you in boost when you have the brake pedal down? I sure hope not, so its not needed there, it has plenty of vac going to it when the brake is applied. Second the EVAP, the EVAP cansiter solenoid only opens when the car is in a "cruise" mode, also a time when the car is in vac, not boost so again is a boost source other than vac inside the mani needed? No! In a rare rare occasion you might get a stiff brake pedal, and by rare I mean maybe in a 30min track session where you are on and off the brake and gas pedal many many times in a split second. Ive been without mine for over a year now and yet to have any circumstances where it was needed. Plus it looks much cleaner without all that shit!

You can remove the suction pump, connect the brake booster directly to the rear connection on the mani just like mine is, and then connect the EVAP vac feed line directly to the side port on the mani (usually feeds the suction pump). Wont effect emissions whatsoever!

OK, this looks kinda easy, it looks like you took that hose coming from the firewall and hooked it up straight to the intake manifold. What about the other hose connect to the pump that goes down into the engine bay what happened with that one?

I took it out ... That "F" hose feeds the N249 (ECU DV control) and N112 (SAI solenoid)

If your wanting to keep everything as is, just T that off the back connection. I would also put a check valve inbetween the mani and the brake booster connection on the firewall. This will keep you from blowing it out of the grommet on the firewall. I didnt want to see the check valve inline so I came up with another way to keep it in there

And those can get fixed with a simple ECU tweak by your tuner

Shawn. I sat down and sketched out a simplification and removal of most of the EVAP and SAI system. I'll email it to you to solicit your comments. Curious to hear what you think.

Man, I would love to have the cleaner look ,but thats a deal breaker. Oh well the one piece suction pump should work well, I just order one from ECS. Hope they don't screw up my order again.

PS This is off the topic ,but can the exhaust manifold be changed without removing the turbo? Been thinking about getting the Kinetic manifold. It looks like its accessible with the air box taken out.

Manifold can be changed with the turbo in the car yes, its more of a pain in the ass, the bottom nuts are much harder to get to but it is possible. I did it with my K04 and ATP manifold.

As for the suction pump, you can remove it as I said way up ^^ and not affect SAI, EVAP, ... and stay CEL free

Okay, I have one question... What do you guys do with the line that goes down to the PCV valve? I wan't to clean up my stuff and get rid of it all, but I dunno what to do with the PCV line that hooks to the suction pump...

My suction pump just died last night after a hard accel, I suppose it didn't like the additional boost from Stage1+.

Shawn, would you mind if I picked your brain over PM a bit about removing some stuff? I am all about keeping things simple and did so thoroughly with my FD3S, taking the vacuum system from over 72 vacuum lines down to 19 whilst maintaining the sequential turbo system. I don't know much about the VW/Audi systems yet though (still trying to sift through information) to know what is necessary and what can piss-off. SAI, the suction/PCV and such I think I could do without and not notice. Evap I may keep only because it can benefit your MPG efficiency.

I love the way your engine bay looks, I think mine needs more obese turbo love as well.

Re: What hose and sensor is this? (PICS)

this thread made me worry - what else can be wrong with my car? - it makes all kinda air leaking noises. . . i wish there is somebody who knows it all can check it out for me and maybe help me restore the proper "breathing" :)

Where in FL are you from? Just meet up with me or come to my shop and let me do it ... much easier
