I know....there have been threads on it....and i've looked through them but none of them have answered my question.
I have access to a 6spd out of an 04 S4. how much (and what kind) of work is involved to convert my 5spd 03 1.8T A4 to this S4 6 spd?

    thanks!

I would suggest calling Jose at Euro Tech motors in Los Angeles... He has done the conversion and knows exactly what you need.

i know of a shop in ontario (south on the 427, near the beachs) that might be able to help you. my boss is really good with the owners, they recently put an a6 2.7t motor into a b5 a4, and converted to 6spd and everything. they would be a good starting point. i will PM the shop name/contact info after i speak with my boss. only thing im not sure of is if your able to use a tranny from a v8 and try to mate it to a v4. not sure if that will work, but im sure the shop could answer that for you

    Re: 6spd conversion

While it isn't a direct comparison, I've been involved in two auto to manual swaps in old Datsun Z cars which are much easier to do than a more modern Audi such as yours. There is so much work in labor-hours that IMHO you'd be better off considering just buying a manual transmission car than to go through the painstaking and expensive swap you have in mind. From my new-to-Audi understanding, the V8 attachment points don't match to the inline-4cyl attachment points.

It CAN be done with a competent mechanic doing the work, but I would bet that the cost is extraordinary enough that just buying another car is a better option.

    Re: 6spd conversion

Sorry, my error...missed the 5spd part as I had previously read another post on another forum for auto to manual. Doh! Good luck on mating it to your engine and if you find a solution be sure to post it.
