    i thought the reference B only refers to the A4 models?

    eg.
    C = A6
    D = A8

    but since the next-generation A4 and the A5 have the same underpinnings, they're both the B8.

    HEY! I know, I've been MIA for a bit. I don't know if I'll get a B8 A4 next. It's easily one of the best-looking cars Audi has made in a while, but I have to be honest, I looooooooove the A5. Good thing the B8 A4 looks pretty much identical to a 4-door A5

    it refers the the chassis. teh A6, A4 and A8 are obviously different chassis (can tell by size). the A4 and A5 share the same core chassis, the B chassis.

    Actually it doesn't refer to the chassis at all. The B is an internal platform designation. The actual chassis code for both B6 & B7 is 8E, as they both use the same chassis.

    Also, the next gen A6 will be based on the same MLP chassis used in the B8 cars, but I'll willing to bet the internal platform designation is gonna be C7.

    And since the A5 is replacing the A4 cab, it's basically the same.

    Re: "b"8?

    Correct, it's basically a platform versus chassis thing. Thanks for helping to clear that up, guys.
