    dried amber/sap or something

i dont know what i ran through, but i have this gunk sprayed and crusted on the lower panels on the passenger side. it pretty much looks like splashed sunkist that got all dried up.
i've tried clay but it was only effective on the really small spots (like dot sized). on the bigger streaks it was pretty much an effort in futility.
using a light compound didnt do much either.
ive read that you can use alcohol on it if it's sap.
    hopefully that'll work.
just posting in advance in case anybody had any other ideas.

You might need a more aggressive clay followed by polishing (aggressive clays cause marring). Hit Phil for which clay is great for this.

i tried with both a mothers clay bar and the gray adams claybar from phil.
the adams gets off the little specks but really doesnt do much on the longer streaks.

Is it road paint for the divider lines? Orange in color? If so, I would try some 3M adhesive remove. I doubt sap would spray up on the lower panels.

best i can describe it is as dried orange soda.
it's more of a clear orange not opaque.

I would still try some of the 3M Tar, Wax, and Adhesive remover. It costs about 5 to 6 bucks and is clear coat safe.

yeh, the 3m adhesive remover seems to be the general consensus.
hopefully the walmart or home depot around here carries em.

Plastic Deep Cleaner "Plastik-Reiniger" is actually very good at removing harder to remove grime and stains on lower exterior rocker panels even though its primary purpose is to clean interior plastic components.

You can remove bitumen (the tar they use to give roads a quick makeover) with PDC so it's worth a try for the type of stain you have. BTW, you can also use it on upholstery and carpets to spot remove harder to remove stains such as grease.

    Mike

I took your advice and tried the Plastic deep cleaner on a new Charger with lots of tar spots. One side, I remove them with the clay and spend lots of time. The other side, let the plastic deep cleaner for a few mins, rinse.. and the clay was removing it off much easier and as a result the clay ended much cleaner.

Thanks again for the tip.. and letting you know.. I've been using 303 for a while and now me and all my clients have preferred the matte finish from Cockpit premium.

Great to hear! Thanks for sharing.

Also, I've been asked if Anti-Insekt wasn't the go to product for these type of issues. It is when you're talking about sap and grime along the rocker panels which it easily brakes down prior to washing. It also handles very light tar.

Plastic Deep Cleaner is better when the rocker panels have been really bombarded by tar or if you have cosmoline (that wax that oozes out of the crevices over time). It has that extra oomph. Also good when some foreign contaminant is really baked on for a longer period of time and Anti-Insekt isn't enough.

Finally, if you use Plastic Deep Cleaner on the paintwork, I suggest re-waxing or applying Detail Spray with its polymer wax over the treated area to restore some of the protection.
