    2700-3000rpm issue

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all, I’ve got a question…

Recently I’ve noticed that between 2700-3000rpm my car runs rough. It’s not like the car is shaking or making any loud noise, it more of a vibration between that rpm range. I thought that the issue would improve when I had the 55k service done, but it didn’t seem to help. Any ideas…

One of the motor mounts maybe? have it inspected for broken motor mounts!

nope, its one of your coil packs pre-failure. and you wont get a check engine light until it fails completely.

    Thanks for the help guys.
Is the coilpack something that would be covered in my CPO warranty from Audi?

    Re: 2700-3000rpm issue

When did you change your spark plugs? If the answer is no, that's your issue. They are covered at your 55K service. I just changed mine at 32K, had hesitation issues ~3800RPM. When they change the plugs they can look at the coil packs and let you know if that's the issue also.

    Re: 2700-3000rpm issue

I just changed them at 55k (about 1k ago) and thought that it would improve the problem, but had no luck. I am getting better gas mileage though

I guess I’ll just take it to the stealership and see what they say. Is this something that I can test with a VAG? It would be nice to be able to tell the guy at Audi that the problem is definitely the coils because my VAG said so.

    Re: 2700-3000rpm issue

tell him they are definetly the coils from your knowledge of tuning and maintaining audi's.

and a VAGcom wont tell you anything until the coil completely fails and you get a flashing check engine light. until then you are left guessing

It's covered. I had one fail, replaced, another failed, so I got them to replace all 8

    Re: 2700-3000rpm issue

On my first S4 I had one go bad and my dealer got all 8 covered for me as a preventative measure. I am having a little bit of a miss at idle on my current car and suspect that I have one on its way out. Hopefully they will get all 8 covered under warranty on this car as well.

Where should I look for coils at? Checker cause its close or online cause they are inexpesive. As well as spark plugs. My B6 has the same problem. under load the engine hesitates, skips, slips, right at 3000 rpm to 3300 rpm.

this sounds similar to my problem.. slight hiccup/flat spot around 2-3k at 1/4 throttle with normal driving.. WOT car is fine. i put in a chevron fuel injector cleaner with techron fuel system cleaner and it was improved while it was still in the tank. next tank it went back to the problem ):

spark plugs and coil packs were both changed as well as the fuel filter.

please let me know if you solve this issue..

I tried new coil packs. The hesitation or sputter I had right at 3000 rpm was caused by a slightly loose spark plug. I drove for 90 minutes yesterday to prove that it had fixed the problem and.. no hesitation. Its simple but check the spark plugs, make sure they are clean and tight.

All the coil packs tested in at around 380 m ohms

i will recheck them.. i also bought some techron fuel system cleaner and some MAF cleaner. hopefully after doing these it will fix the issue.
