some pics of the 4.2 progess... finally

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so about a month ago i picked up my 4.2... it's got every single option possible, like sport package, nav, rear sunshade, cold weather package and so on... so then i got to modding.. so far i've done avic-z2 double din, since the stock navi is useless, LED tails, new rims, and lowered it... I'm planning on doing a full euro s6 sedan conversion, including s6 cams and software for the motor, suede headliner and seat inserts, s6 grilles and whatever else it needs... but here are a couple of pics of my progress... let me know what you guys think...

When i first got the car...

    after rims and tails

    lowered

car looks great! much better with it lowered.

i would love to do the s6 suede headliner. i hate having a black leather interior and then the stupid light color headliner. where can you even get a suede headliner kit, i didnt know if those are available.

i'm not really lookin into a kit, gonna either try to find a used one out of an rs6 maybe or just take it down and get someone local to just wrap it for me... and i just wanna reuse my stock seats and get the middles wrapped in suede as well... but that wont be till summer probs...

got me thinking about the headliner now...looked it up. seems it can be done fairly easy by yourself

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1312975

however, thats not suede which looks bad ass in the RS6 and S6, but it is black which i like.

Here is a tech article I wrote up on the RS6 alcantara headliner swap...it was probably one of the MOST time consuming projects I've done. Hope this info helps.

That looks like great write up with lots of pics. Didn't have the time to read all the way through it yet. Does it mention where you got the headliner from? if not, where did you get it?

Got the complete set from eBay Germany for about $400 shipped! It was the steal of a lifetime! To replace ONE visor would cost more than that! It was a major PITA to buy...wire transfer, no PayPal, shipping took months since it was hung up in US customs. They were like "WTF is this stuff?" I had to explain to the customs officer before they released it for final shipping via DHL.

[O_O] Wow!!! that is one complicated, skillfull and gutsy DIY!!! It would have taken me months and a lot of sleepless nights to finish that, congrats...
I see that you also go the RS6 piped seats, or so it seems in the picture next to last? If so where did you get them? I'd like to find at least a set of sports OEM seats myself...

Yes, the headliner install was one heck of a project, but done over a couple of days, a few hours here and there at a time.

The RS6 seats are from Phil from DetailersDomain in NJ. He upgraded to Euro recaro seats, so I bought his RS6 seats, and sold my stock sport seats to a local A6 owner that wanted to upgrade to sport seats. The real reason I grabbed Phil's RS6 seats was for the flat rear bench. The stock 4.2 sport rear bench in 2000-2002 has this horrible "hump" in the middle seat position, making it VERY difficult to engage the buckle for Jr. Driver's seatbelt. I could nto find a local person that wanted to swap rear sport seats, so I bought Phil's.

There was a set of black OEM sport seats on eBay just last week that was in the $500-600 range buy-it-now. You just have to keep looking.

Oh, and LOTS of RS6 parts on my car:
    -seats
    -spoiler
    -alcantara headliner
    -shift knob
    -sideskirts
    -exhaust
    -wheels (backup sumer setup)
    -interior carbon fiber trim

I believe that at this point a few pics are required...

Also, I saw the sport seats on eBay, too bad my interiors are off-white or cream color with black carpet and such. I would need to switch front and rear to black. Bummer...
