vacuum problem probably - not blown turbo - because even with blown turbo - vac is usually normal

    Re: Is my turbo fried

#1 visually inspect the engine compartment. Make sure no hoses popped off. At 17psi vacuum lines that don't have clamps on them can pop off.
#2 if you can't find them that way, start the engine and listen for the vacuum noise. Sounds like sucking air.

It's possible that it's just the vacuum line going to your gauge, or even the gauge itself. I know at least one of the members here have had issues with their GlowShift gauge.
Try another gauge, and connect it straight to the intake manifold. Should be 18-21in Hg vacuum at idle.
I guess it's possible you managed to get a gigantic boost leak, but I don't see that being the issue.

Wastegate is a good thing to look into as well, try a handheld vacuum pump on the actuator and check if it's leaking down.

    Re: Is my turbo fried

You guys are dumb, If the car runs fine and feels the same, which is what im assuming, then its probably a messed up boost gauge. You would feel a huge difference in performance going from 17psi to 0.

    Re: Is my turbo fried

Unless you're bellowing white smoke out the exhaust you didn't blow the turbo. A precursor to a turbo is going bad is a drill noise.

Check everything that connects to the intake manifold because it is no longer sealed which is why your not producing boost or a good vacuum reading.

    Re: Is my turbo fried

pardon the threadjack, but the exact same thing just happened to me, however I am still seeing the 18in hg in vacuum, but zero boost... no smoke or noise from turbo... not really sure what direction to go either...

He needs to look, it could be anything from a vacuum problem to a snapped shaft,I tend to think boost pipe off

Mine still runs and drives w/ the DV stuck open and the recirc line disconnected, or rather being eaten by the A/C belt. Idled like hell, and throttle response was non-existant, BUT it ran

Next step is finding out where it came from...

Look for hose connections to the turbo.
