I seriously burnt almost 2 full qts in 300 miles

No black exhaust smoke, what gives?

My car had a cam adjustor issue, and now is resolved and the car has 18k on it.

    Runs PERFECT

What are some possibilities? Ive had the car for about 5 days now, and its always half qt low.

It does have regular oil in it right now (not syntec) bc repair shop wants to see if it burns oil.

Do you guys think I am going to have to get rid of this car, bc if its piston rings or somethign that requries the bottom end to be apart, I cant afford it

    huh

No way it's burning it that quick.
You would know by the smoke and it would run poorly as that's a lot of oil.
It's got to be leaking somewhere, I would look really carefully at all my fluids.
Under the car which I am sure you have checked.
Pull ALL the spark plugs for inspection and do a compression check asap
    Get an oil analysis asap
Drain your coolant and look at it's color carefully
I'll keep thinking while you do those things :)

Definetley checked for leaks on the hoist.. none.

Do you remember that time where my cyl 1 CP was acting up?.. well in the time it was missing, oil built up somewhere. When it started running straight again, i floored it and dad saw a cloud of black smoke. no more of that, for a long while, i even topped it off after.

+1 seems to me. Maybe you're only getting the leak when the pressure's up. Have you parked on some clean pavement and just tried running and revving the engine for 5 - 10 minutes?

Do a leakdown test at your local auto mechanic. They put this flourescent fluid into your motor and hit the outside with a blacklight.

Will do. Talked to mechanic and he said he wants 1000 miles on it before he diagnoses it further.

That's not too bad. I'll bet the dealer would say that they would want 32k more miles on it before they would diagnose it further.

In the meantime, get a sample of your oil off to analysis.

What information will the test results give me? I do smell gas in my oil. I also have just got the oil changed 300 miles ago, and about 2 of those quarts are fresh (today).. is that enough for the analysis?

Why would you wait..your car is drinking/leaking oil?
Lubrication is THE most important thing going on inside.
If your oil is being diluted or lost it may also impact oil pressure that could lead to bearing failure, etc, etc..

I would not be driving a car that sucked up 2 quarts in 300 miles.
If your mechanic is just too busy right now to look at it that's one thing but to keep driving it and risk further damage just seems wrong.
    But that's just me.

Well I'm keeping a few qts of oil in my trunk, but the thing is, he had told me to stop by after a 1000 miles when i picked up the car.. he wants to inspect his work, plugs, and now hes thinking its blocked oil lines which are leading oil to go thru intake and get burned.

This is very true, you could affect the longevity and not know it till the car gets to, say, like 80k miles. You realize then that the damage was caused back when the car had 18k on it.

I'm not buying that answer at all, why would any reputable tech even consider letting you drive the car with a "blocked oil line"
Also, there are no external oil lines I know of other than the 2 hoses going to the oil cooler.
I don't think the intake system has any oil fed lines at all so his answer makes no sense at this juncture.
Even so, his answer indicates a loss of oil pressure by blowing oil into the intake stream which cannot be good if true.
pic of oil cooler below, did you guys even know you had one :)

    Re: sorry

If you have an RS4 there are two oil coolers. One thermostatically controlled mounted at the front of the car and the one in the diagram that exchanges heat with the engine coolant. All of us have the heat exchanger type regardless of model.

Bike, that's thread isn't going to help him. Remember, I jacked that thread and turned it into a floorjack vs. car ramps oil change thread.

Man I have seen more posts about problems with your car than anyone. I dont think I will ever go near a flood car. Sorry I cant help here... No leaks? Anything in your coolant?

See thats a misconception... I just got unlucky. This was a bad car prior to the flood.. and see as dealers, a car with 17k, i expected NO motor problems.

No there is no oil in my coolant.. my car makes no sort of smoke or nothin.

See as a flood car, when I bought it, I knew it was running. I knew the ECU got saved, and the high electrical components got saved.

The only electrical issues I had with the car were seat motors, and headlight range control.. Seat motors, obviously, but i got the motor out of my b6 parts car.. same part numbers

Range control, I looked on the suspension, found the suspension level senors, and changed them.. all is good.

I just got unlucky and got a car with motor problems which the car was having prior to the flood, because if water got into the motor, it would be a done motor, locked.

So bad judgement on my part is to blame.. i picked up the car with a CEL, and a miss, bc of camshaft position, and I thought 'oh no, there couldnt be any thing wrong with the motor, its electrical".... WRONG

I wonder if the car was running when it got flooded...maybe some of the rings got blown out if water got in a cylinder and overpressured it?

Compression checks out okay? but maybe..

When I talked to the guy he said that all he did was change oil, and then put a new starter bc it was fried to get the car running..

I have a 3.0q with a blown ring due to pes' supercharger, and let me tell you, it SMOKES when it runs.

And usually if water gets into the motor like that, it hydrolocks.. cylinder walls scratch up like theres nothing left of them and i guess alot of other things get ruined.
