    New toy

Now that I'm pretty happy with the aesthetics of my car, I've started to shift my focus to increasing the anemic performance of my poor little 1.8T. Of course, the first thing you gotta do when you start turning up the boost is to get a boost gauge, so of course I hit up Winston who was super helpful as usual.

We all know the most annoying thing about adding a boost gauge to our cars is that they never match the factory gauges. Well, Winston has a solution now.

I have the first one of the new gauges, and I gotta say it's a pretty sweet little unit. Color and brightness of the new gauge is awesome and fully adjustable and matches the factory dials perfect (even the font!). You can also program a max boost warning and the gauge will light up and flash all red and beep when you boost past the preset level. This is not a mechanical gauge, but instead uses a stepper motor, so there's no more buzzing to annoy you either!

I'm sure Winston will be able to chime in with more specs once he sees this thread.

And a random pic of my car I found on a Honda forum:

Haha, now I'll be low and kinda slow. Not doing anything too crazy. Planning to get exhaust soon and then probably a 1+ program. I might get a K04, but I'm not totally sure yet. I'm just not really interested in tapping into the performance potential of this car really, so I'm gonna keep it simple.

Did Podi officially release that as the new gauge yet? Sucks cuz I just got my Podi like 1.5 weeks ago and the illuminations is super weak compared to your new one

Well it is unfair to compare the Stewart Warner unit to this new one. The SW uses one LED to light it up while this one uses 9 LEDs, the SW is mechanical and this one is 100% electronic.

These gauges are my version of the Defi gauge but without needing a dedicated controller.

These gauges are not available yet. Capt. O there has one of my prototype units in his car.

The shipment of these new gauges is due to arrive this month.

    Price?

$249 for the gauge pod package

$149 for the gauge by itself

But I will be holding a introductory sale when they arrive so start saving up.

    Re: New toy

Font is similar, but not the same. This IS the closest to oem gauges that I have seen in an aftermarket product, but still not 100%

Perhaps it is even the same font, but has not been manipulated to match exactly? The characters are too tall. Look at the zeros on the oem gauges, nice and round. Also, the spacing seems off, I bet you could get away with knocking the point size down a little for a better visual match. It is closer to you so even if the Type is the same size, it will feel bigger because it is closer.

    Winston,
If they are still in the prototype phase let me know, I'd be happy to help you dial it in. I have been putting off getting one because I HATE it when gauges do not match oem. P.S. I do Industrial Design for a living.

Since the cutouts are shaved, it's going to be a fully custom affair. I have a few ideas I'm tossing around, but I haven't decided which way to go yet. Once I finally make up my mind, you'll all see.

Well since they're almost a $100 more I'm happy with the SW. I'm also prolly bitter cuz I haven't seen it read over 10psi yet cuz of my dead K03! Ok though, K04 will be here on thurs.

You remove the SW unit, plug in the new boost sender, wire up the electrical connections and you are done.

If Derrick and do it anyone can do it!

Font is similar, but not the same. This IS the closest to oem gauges that I have seen in an aftermarket product, but still not 100%
You are correct. Font isn't a 100% match. The numbers are not 'fat' enough as you can tell by looking at the zero but I can't make a dial for every car so the one you see is the best 'universal' match I have for VW/Audi.

And I am so OCD that I couldn't afford to spend any more time and money perfecting the dial any further. An example is the B5 pod design which was delayed an entire year over fitiment issues of 0.3mm which I didn't like.

Thanks for your offer to help with testing but that phase has been completed and the first batch of gauges have been made and should arrive to me by the end of this month.
