    Streetsport stiffness?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
With the killer group buy going on right now, I am at least considering passing on PSS9s for these. My concern isn't so much easy adjustability as it is overall improvement in handling. I've read how awesome the streetsports are because they don't feel hardly any different from stock sport suspension. How much stiffer are they, and how much will handling really improve? I want coilovers for handling much more than I do for lowering/aesthetics. The PSS9s appeal because you can really stiffen the car up and make it handle for a decent price. I have been planning on running the Hotchkis H-Sport kit for the RS4 with PSS9s and feel that the Streetsports might be too soft to properly work with these sways. Can anyone provide some insight? Thanks!

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

I would suggest going with PSS9s (among other options) if you prioritize handling more than lowering/aesthetics and Streetsports if you prioritize the opposite. If I was summing up Streetsports based on everything here, I would say they were a nicely priced option to lower your car and keep a comfortable ride. Performance doesn't really figure into the equation (although I'd imagine it would handle somewhat better than stock).

Take that for what it's worth; I've not driven a car with Streetsports.

so it would be better to track the car with pss9's on versus streetsports?

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

I've had both. It's all a tradeoff, with Streetsports leaning more toward street, and PSS9's toward track. I had very few complaints from passengers with my streetsports, quite a few with PSS9's even set to full soft (I haul clients around in my car for work...)

The car was a lot more responsive with the Bilsteins. Either way, Stasis has some pretty good recommendations of their site for heights and alignment. If you're not interested in slamming the car for looks, my best advice to not go too low. ~25.5" has worked the best for me.

In fact, my best track setup was Bilsteins @ 25.5" (a little stiffer in back than front- remember lower # on Bilsteins is stiffer), Stasis' "aggressive street" alignment, an RS4 rear bar, and 18 x 8.5" wheels w/ 255/35-18 tires.

If I had kept it that way, I would have tried the H Sport bars next. I think that's the right direction...

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

so right now im really having a hard time deciding whether i want PSS9's or street sports..

I will be tracking at least three times and i do canyon runs occasionally. You said that the Pss9's are a bit bumpy still at the softest setting?

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

StaSIS tuned their coilovers specifically for the A4 so should get the best performance gains from the street sports

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

well this might be too late but, I jumped on the stasis deal and was wondering if anyone had first hand experience w/ them @ the track.
I've driven customer's konis with springs and I liked the koni dampers firm and responsive.
So I kinda assumed that the stasis revalved konis would be even better.
But I have never tried them.
I have driven b6 s4s w/pss9 and they are nice too, a little harsh compared to stock or spring/damper combo but great for mild track use. The rod/piston is a very larger diameter in front which is great for the track and seal life.
please post any stasis ss experience

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

I want to clarify.. the koni /sport spring (h&r and eibach ) b6/b7's I have driven would be great for mild track use too, and with the stasis setup I hope it will be the best of these combos since the spring and shock were matched. Both the pss9 and ss are height adjustable but for the b6/7 rear..... its not user friendly for either. The both have progressive springs and both have dampening adjustment. but the ss has to be off the car
anyone have real world experience with the best track settings for the ss?
It would be great to get some feedback from current ss users for all of us in on the group buy.

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

thats the only thing i dont like about the ss. i dont want to have to remove the coilovers evreytime i go to the track, decide for a little canyon run, or want to go softer.

That's a non sequitur if I've ever seen one.

Why would anyone adjust Streetsports, anyway? Isn't the whole point that they're Koni adjustables that STaSIS has pre-adjusted to their own specs?

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

This is a little off topic but, i know that if you drop the car you have to get the alignment changed. So if I dropped my car would I have to get the alignment changed going from 245's to 235's and back?

Sounds like I should stick with the original plan.. PSS9s. Someone try to convince me! The $750 sounds great, but it really does seem like they are more about aesthetics.

    Re: Streetsport stiffness?

Are the default settings of Stasis SS coilovers firmer than the OEM Sline Sport Suspension ?

or more to the point, for a 100% streeter, is ride quality noticable worst than the OEM sports suspension ?

No, it is not noticeably worse. I actually prefer the ride quality now to my previous S-line/sport suspension. And I have it slammed with the damper set to the softest settings. It is definitely an improvement.
