Spacer wheel bolts. How long do I need them to be?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just got some H&R spacers for my birthday and I need to know what length bolts I need to use to replace the stock ones.
I got 8mm for the front and 15 mm for the rears.

    I have stock RS6 18" wheels on S-Line, FWD A4.

To determine the correct bolt size, add the width of the spacer to your stock lug bolt size (28mm for OEM applications). I used ecstuning.com for this info.

    so 28mm + 8mm; 28mm + 15mm

The calc above is perfect to get you in the hunt. Unfortunatly, bolts don't come in exact incremental lengths. Error on the side of caution and get the longer size if you are in the middle. To short is UNSAFE!!!! I ran a set of 40mm bolts from ECS w/ 8mm spacers for a week or so. Just triple check that clearance is ok once everything is on. FWIW I didn't have any clearance issues. If you do, just shorten the bolts.

Yeah, I would go probably 1mm over what you need, they'll only hit if they're over 5mm too long or something.

Make sure you get the correct seat on your lug bolts (conical or ball seat)
    Ignorance is bliss.

/\ /\ /\ yeah...what all 3 of them said. if you are in the the middle of the provided bolt length, go the next higher.

looks like he's using stock wheels, so make sure you get ball/radius/round seat bolts.

*btw our bolts are 14 x 1.5 mm (diameter x thread cut) <--not length measurement.

This post was in 2008. I found it when I searched for wheel bolt length suggestions toward spacers.
My car is 2005.5 S4. Stock wheels.

    Questions:
    1. I bought H&R 24mm spacers for the rear. I suppose the wheel bolt length needed is 28+24=52mm min.? Would 50mm be OK?
    2. What is the suggestion for the spacer thickness for the front to best fit the 24mm spacers in the rear?
    3. Do I need to do the alignment after putting on the spacers?

    Answers:
    1) Stick with 52 MM. Safety First. It is better to go a bit more than under.
    2) I don`t know, I run even 10MM spacers back and front. From what I read, people running 12MM Front, 15MM Rear. Should give you a Idea. SEARCH !
    3) No alignment needed.
