I think mine needs a serious boost. I have the 2001 avant with symphony non bose system. What are you guys running as far as a complete overhaul goes?
I'm gonna fiberglass a small 10 into one of the cubby holes.

    Re: Avant sound systems

You have to expand the cubby to make it worth while. I ended up putting my 2 amps in the left cubby instead and keeping the sub in a box. I upped the front components, added an icelink, a separate high watt 10" sub, a sub amp and 4 channel amp. I went through a lot of changes and this is what I settled on.
    Current:
    2001 Audi A4 Avant, Stage 3 (17 years, 120K)

    Sold:
    1999 Audi A6 Avant, Worn (3 years, 134K)
    1996 Audi A6 Avant (5 years, 155K)

    *(Owned, Odometer)

I'm running an Avic-D3 (w/ BT, XM and iPod) and a Basslink sub. Nothing too flashy.

I have never had any issues with the amps shutting down or anything, but I don't really crank the system at all...
Just enjoy a really nice sound.
But if I did have any heat issues, I would cut holes in the cover and re-cover with matching cloth.

The only mod I had to do was trim a little bit of the black tray liner for the 4AWG power and ground wires. Rack is pretty snug but I placed 2 pieces of HD velcro underneath, in case. 1/2" MDF from Home Depot ($6) and wrapped in leftover ultra-suede.
