I did it to mine but after spending alot of time prep'in it, and painting it..it chipped with rock chips...I'm ordering the blacked out version.

but to answer your ?, I used a light satin krylon paint...not too flat, not too glossy

I think everyone will tell you that the paint will chip over time, depending on which paint/method you use. It's best to just get the black out grill if that's the look you want. Otherwise, it'll chip and look cheap.

    not true.

it is all in the prep.

i have a painted grill that has been holding up very well. it has been redone now so that the center is now satin black to match the satin black filler plate.
    i love you

I'm sure there are a few exceptions to my broad statement.

My point was that I've heard a lot of people say that the paint chips or cracks over time and would recommend not trying it all together and simply ordering the black out grill.

If you or someone else has a method that works, I would suggest a DIY for other members considering this mod.

Just use plasti-dip that's what everyone uses on the B6 and it holds up fine, it's more like rubber then paint.
