Do you guys valet your ride?

I'm just curious, in certain places; do you guys 'valet' your Audi or prefer to park it on your own to avoid surprises? I haven't got a chance to valet my A4 yet but I've had some unpleasant experiences with my little subcompact in the past which made me much wary about handing my key to the valet guys.

I tell them "here is 5 dollars. I'll park it myself. And they usually put me in the closest spot to the front thats usually reserved for high end mercedes and such thats outside of Flemmings." I know alot of people that do that after bad experience's. I actually, one night with the parents mercedes about a year ago, allowed them to valet the car, and the jackass drug a cone from the spot all they way up to the deliver spot. I was so furiours that i said "Do you have a fucking drivers license?! If so, it should be pulled." I think the dude got fired, but my friends got a kick out of it. Since then, i've parked the Audi where i want and just give them 5 bucks for a spaceous(sp) spot.

I never valet. I work at a hotel in Vegas and know a bunch of valets all over town. Those dudes couldn't care less how they treat your car. Especially if it's a performance car. They will drive that shit like it's stolen. I've see it. I'm talking about gunning the engine, full ABS stopping, mis-shifting etc. The valets here in Vegas rarely scratch or steal from cars but they drive them silly.

it depends on where it is....I usually do when i go to Hockey games but i guess thats kind of different because its a VIP thing. the staff they have is very good and 99.99% of people going to the game cant use the service, they actually usually leave really close for a quick escape too

And if I have time and can tell the owner isn't in a rush, I usually strike up a small convo about his car or audi's in general.

I've met some dude from either IL or MI that I think is on this forum.. drives a blue b6 a4 3.0., debadged, hardwired v1 and drove it down to Boston.

That's cool as hell. I work as a bellman and I always try and talk to audi drivers and even BMW drivers. Most are cool as hell but the biggest douchbag I ever tried to talk to was a guy that pulled up in an r8 a couple of months ago. Dude thought his shit didn't stink. Didn't even respond to me at all, just walked right by me and gave me a totally derisive look when I said "nice car , man!" If I wasn't at work I would have cussed his ass out. Pissed me off. Rich prick.

For whatever reason, AMG owners tend to be the coolest guys. They'd rather talk cars than go into the hotel and check in. Every single AMG owner I've ever talked to on the job( at least 10-15 over the years) has been a cool ass dude.

That's awesome. I know exactly where you're coming from. I get the same attitude every now and then from people that think they're hot shit. Even upper management has that attitude. Many of them are Indian decent and maintain classist (class-ism?) attitude, like there are only two types of people in this world, royalty and peasants.. they don't even look at the bellmen, doorman etc.. in the eyes and can be complete assholes and think nothing of it. They also seem like miserable people so I suppose it balances out.

As for AMG's.. ever since out new management our clientèle has gone from wealthy, to middle-lower class. So we don't get nearly as many nice cars anymore. I would have quit the job long ago, but during events there's some decent money to be made and it's very flexible with college. We used to get some great cars all the time.I've driven nearly every Porsche, BMW, AUDI.. we'd get lambos, Aston martins, Bentleys.. you name it. Now those have gotten pretty rare. Most of our cars are rentals, minivans, suburbans, camrys, rav 4's.. It's gotten sad. Every now and then we'll get an rs4, s4, m3, 335 etc.. but few and far in between.

It's funny that you say that about people of Indian descent. I know there is or was a caste system in India. I'm not an expert but I believe the system is as you said, rich and poor with a small if any, middle class. The reason I even mention this is that a good percentage of Indian people that I deal with while on my job as a bellman, tend to treat me the same way you said they treated you. Let me say right now that I do not mean every single Indian person does that. But as a whole I agree with your assessment. I get the feeling that they think I'm a lower class of person than they are and as a whole they treat me that way. I don't know if they are miserable or not but as a whole I get treated poorly when I'm on the job by them. Sensitive subject for sure. I'm asian too so It's not like I'm discriminating against "brown" people. I'm kind of brown myself.

Ok, so what is the sweetest car you've driven on the job? The coolest car I've seen in our Valet was a Gallardo convertible that ran through there last week. Aviator grey. Sounded incredible.It was nasty. I ted to like the sportier cars better than the Maybachs, Bentleys and occaisonal Rolls that come through. I don't even notice the bigger cars to be honest.

I never do. I work as a server in a restaurant and our valet sucks so much! I wouldn't trust them with a Ford Bronco! a Maserati valeted once, they didn't even know how to drive it! it took 3 of them to do it. 3!!!! I'm not saying anything bad abou velets but someone of them are terrible!

yeah word of advice, i used to valet cars and i used to work at these high end restaurants where lambos and ferraris came like it was nothing. If anyone lives on long island and youve heard of the Nautical Mile in freeport, thats where i worked....enever trust valets. Granted I may have been a trustowrthy one, but every kid i worked with was a drugee and definitely not trustworhthy.. I will never valet my car unless i know where its parked. and that 5 dollar thing for the closest spot is def a good way to park. I used to love when that happened. 5 bucks for doing nothign lol.

That may work in Fresno, but in the tri-state, they would laugh at you for $5. You're not parking your car in front of anywhere nice for less than $20 no matter what you drive. Especially since in the city, valet is at least $15 on the weekends. And when you have to compete with cars like S550's, Range Rovers, 750's, etc. you are going to have to drop about $20 to park in the front.

I valet my car when I am going to a nice restaurant or something, but I usually pay them to keep it close so I can watch them park it. The worst experience I had was when a valet farted in my car, it was pretty horrid, I was on a first date too

Depends on the place. Where I part time, $5's are normal, and would never get you a spot up front. The doorman charges $30 for the front and side spots. $5 won't get you any special service here, but it will at other places. Many people tip us $5 and think they're being generous, when the guy before him just tipped $20. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful regardless... I have an expensive hobby to feed.

Keep tipping nicely. I'm not saying this because I'm a valet, but if you're a regular some place and you tip well, chances are they're doing some extra things behind the curtains for you. Then again, maybe no one gives a shit.. I don't work there.

I get asked this question all the time and the answer I've officially chosen is, I can't say. I've driven Masarti's, Bentleys, only one Ferrari (very shortly), but I wasn't that excited about any of them much. I mean, I'm still on public streets with someone else's car. Give me those cars on a track while I'm not working and I'll let you know. They're plenty fast, but once you driven a bunch of very fast cars, you need a little more than public streets while on the job.

If I could have my choice of cars for week end use, I'd go with a 335 or a 997.

Yeah Fresno isn't a real happenin spot when it comes to Valet and shit. I mean where their's valet and im going to the restarunt, if its Flemmings, to Ruths Chris, to the Daily Grill, they let me pay them and i park it up front. Yes they usually do save the spots for expensive cars, but they know me well enough now that i'll cut their throat if they screw up my car too.
